A Broken Record...
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!
TODAY'S NUMBERS
HIGH: 64
LOW: 46
That is exactly what I feel like... a broken record. The reason... the pesky Low over the Great Lakes hasn't moved much over the past few days. This has left us with clouds and cool temperatures. And these conditions will continue... at least for the first half of the week!
I always think it's cool to see such a pronounced ridge/trough pattern:

Under the Low to our East... they are still experiencing really raw weather! My relatives in Ohio and Illinois have been complaining... it has literally been constant light rain/mist, chilly temperatures, and windy conditions. Yuck! So we don't really have it THAT bad, even though it's cool here. Eventually, that low will push farther East... and the warmer air to our West will be ushered in here. We should see 70s and 80s by the end of the week.
I know a lot of you have been complaining about the lack of severe weather... when we are in what should be one of the most ACTIVE months! I don't have news of approaching storms... but this is interesting... a list of the most tornado prone cities during the month of May:

The list above is put together by VorTek each year. It's an ongoing company-funded research study of tornadic risk assessment. They determine the rankings based on NWS data from 1950 through 2004. The ACF "Annual Coverage Fraction" represents the average fraction of land area within a 20-mile radius of the city disturbed by tornadoes during May for the 55-year period from 1950 through 2004. The "disturbed land area" represents the average number of acres of land within a 20-mile radius of the city disturbed by tornadoes during May for the same 55-year period. Here is a link to more on their research: VORTEK
There are quite a few Metro cities listed!
OK... last night I brought Mags to the station, and Keith King brought his dog, Murphy. Mags and Murphy played for HOURS... it was quite entertaining! Here is a look at the fun they had!

Do I know you?

Let's play!

Two tough dogs!

Murphy poses nice... while Mags keeps running around

They wore themselves out!

Good pals, just hanging out!
I know these aren't the best pictures... It is REALLY hard to get two labs to sit still!!!! :)
And just because this blog entry isn't long enough... I will add some MORE pictures!! These are from the Olathe Animal Hospital Open House held over the weekend:

At the event!

Breezy's first trick.... SIT!

Hello - geez, this weather is so depressing, just like the garbage we had often in New England where I grew up. If it ain't gonna rain, then let it be sunny.
This has been a terrible May for interesting weather, and I'm not particularly needing severe, just some thunder, to make me happy.
But, it doesn't look particulary good, even into Friday with the Gulf as tight shut as a submarines water-tight doors. After that, according the the NWS discussion (for what it is worth), perhaps a stalling front, more moisture etc...might (and I stress MIGHT) do something, but so far out, who knows?
All I know is this weather is ridiculous - mid-May and we can only struggle into the 60s F? Give me a break!!!
Bring back the sun, even if it's gotta stay dry.
BTW, I guess Gary's gotta be happy in one way, as this garbage perfectly fits into his pattern - that stupid Ontario Low has formed once or twice before in this awful pattern, and he has been on the mark - unfortunately!!! :)
Here's something from Taunton, Mass.:

We love the pics of the labs. We are also lab lovers having three black ones in our life. They are a challenge until about two years old. Then they will turn into the delight of your life.
Diane
HI, DIANE!
I have heard they keep the puppy energy anywhere from 1-3 years. Mags is usually very CALM around our house, but the minute we go someplace exciting... watch out! :) What do you guys give your labs to chew on to pass the time? Mags is really picky about rawhide... she only likes the flavored ones...

It seems like you all have so much fun together and with your pets! I love to see that!
Which one of those dogs won the pet trick contest?
SARA:
We definitely have a good time around here, and out in the community! The dog on the far left won. Zoe "played dead" when she was "shot"... very cute!!

Great pictures! The two dogs look like they could be related. Also, love Gary's blue tennis shoes! =) That tornado-prone list was really interesting, I love blogs with unique info like that. BTW, you asked another blogger what their dog chews on, my dog loves pig ears!
HP:
Mags and Murphy are SO cute together! We have given Mags pig ears before, and she likes them, too!! But she is done with one in under 15 minutes... so they don't last very long! :)

Looks like next week is when the low pressure[s] leaves the GL region. I expect middle of next week to begin the fun again.
Scott,
I am expecting some thunderstorms next week. We have some nice showers today.

Jamie,
At Petsmart on SMPkway, they have these hard long bones (wish I could recall the names) that our lab LOVES. They are not rawhide, but she carries it around and chews on it for hours. It is the only chew thing that lasts any length of time; hers last about 3 months. They have a flavored one also.
JERI:
I will look for them! Let me know if you remember the name! Thanks!

What does (did) Baron our black Lab like to chew on? I think it would be easier to name the things he did NOT like to chew on. Nothing! He chewed our garden hose, door facing, two by fours, chainlink fence, and when nothing else was available, his dog house. But he grew out of it and became a model dog so there is hope.
Diane
DIANE:
Thanks for the giggle :) Mags hasn't gotten that bad into chewing... hopefully she never will! :) The worst she has shredded is HER pillow... at least it wasn't a couch pillow!
