Developing thunderstorms near Falls City
Good afternoon,
I am about to take Windy, Stormy, and Breezy out to the JC Nichols Fountain for a photo shoot. Jeff Penner just called me to tell me about developing thunderstorms over southeast Nebraska. These are forming along the main and final disturbance which has been causing wet weather through the area recently. This disturbance will pass through later this afternoon and this is the time of year for this kind of thing to happen. The thunderstorms are strengthening so let's track them in. If they hold together it could be quite exciting later today.

Good Afternoon, Jamie & Gary
A few words..a few thoughts, the first two " IT POURED " =) Yesterday afternoon in Leawood it finally opened up full throttle..i'm estimating 3/4" to 1" in 45 minutes, rejoice!
Congratulations to you Gary and Jamie for seeing this finally getting it's act together early on yesterday and your gutsy call Gary..80% huh??? mmm mm..lol And more congrats to your new Weather Plus program coming together, i'm sure it will be well produced and well received. I'm happy to hear that we will have access to this in streaming online at some time as well. Ok..now the bonus..It looks like we will get one more good solid round of thunderstorms this afternoon as a pocket of energy rides southeast out of Nebraska and hits some still fairly charged dewpoints and warmth here in the metro which should trigger an afternoon event. Then let's see how that high sets up and where later this week, to see if we can get some wrap over complexes riding southeast. I'm going to go enjoy viewing some cloud building now and hope for some more wet stuff.
Robert
Robert,
Thanks! Hopefully we get something out of the northwest over the weekend.

Gary - Methinks we are grasping at straws.
Dog
Storm Dog,
3 inches of rain 15 miles southeast of you. We aren't grasping at straws. We think we need a vacation.

Hi Gary:
These storms might be east of the Metro, but when I was coming from work, I could see the towering clouds off to the East. Radar shows a good cluster of storms. NWS does not even have a 20% chance. They really need to get with the picture. They need you to talk with them! At least you guys forecast when things change! Even if they are isolated, you guys at least mention them in your forecast while the NWS does not even mention them. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
I think it might rain here in Overland Park. I thought I heard some Thunder while writing this blog. It is getting darker off to the west!
Later,
Brian - Overland Park
Brian,
The outflow boundary is moving through. There is a chance a thunderstorm could form on it.

I live in Grain Valley and it has been pouring for a while now. I was looking at the radar and it's amazing how I am getting rain in the eastern part of the county and the western part is bone dry. Also looking at the radar i see a thin line pushing from east to west. Is that a gust front you sometimes talk about, where a line of storms creates it's own little front?
Justin,
The outflow boundary came out of those thunderstorms and just dropped our temperature 10 degrees as it is continuing to push west across the city. So we get wind and you get rain. This is not fair!

Gary, my first blog got lost in infinity, but I despair KC is cursed, that's all I have got to say. LA has had more interesting wx this year, and our boring weather does not seem ready to change.
An extremely disgusted Dog
Storm Dog,
It went just east of you, unbelievable. A very interesting evening, and this kind of weather does not occur in Los Angeles. But, this weather pattern has been and continues to be more exciting out in LA than here. I promise you next year will make up for this.

Gary
Finally, a good soaking rain here in Grain Valley, almost 3/4 of an inch. This pattern has been all or nothing it seems.
Jeff
Jeff,
You were in it! Awesome.

Gary.....We are located west of Liberty off 291 Hwy. We received a little rain and I mean a LITTLE!!!! We had maybe 3 minutes worth yesterday and that has been it!!!! No sprinkles or big drops nothing. I am really hoping and praying something happens soon. My parents live 30 minutes west of Kirksville on hwy 6 and they said that they got 2 1/2 inches yesterday and hail bigger than golf balls. It wiped out their best looking garden(veggies) in along time. Just thought you would like to know. Thanks for all that you do. Deb
DEB:
Thanks for the report. The thunderstorms packed a lot of rain, but were isolated... so most didn't see a drop. It is amazing that your parents got 2 1/2" out of one of them! We should be dry today, but a slight chance of thunderstorms creeps in for the weekend.
