Hold On!
TODAY'S NUMBERS:
HIGH: 86
LOW: 66
Well... there it is... showing up on radar! It looks like the line of thunderstorms we have been watching all evening WILL make it here! I mean, it's already 1/2 way here from Topeka... so between 10:30pm and midnight, it will race across the Metro! Thank you to those of you that washed your cars, and watered your lawns. :)
You can expect some pretty good downpours... some of these thunderstorms have been dropping anywhere from a quarter to a half of an inch as they move through. But it's one thin line... so that's it! Maybe 30min of rain, and it's over. As the storms initially enter your area... you may experience gusty winds, but the severe threat has deminshed. It looks like the SPC will allow the watch to expire.
Let us know how much rain you get... and remember... beggars can't be choosers... :)
See ya tomorrow,
Jamie

Well, the rain is on the way, but as you said, it is already starting to weaken. It is not raining yet here in Overland Park at least where I am, so we shall see if this thing happens. :-)
By the way, sorry if I made you upset on one of past bloggs. It is just that I have seen this pattern over and over. I have seen the big line of storms, and thought "this time it is going to happen," and then it gets here to Overland Park and fallas apart.
With the dew point so low, I would not be surprised if this thing does not hold together.
Great job tonight!

You did not offend me in any way... but understand that sometimes forecasters can be a little sensitive when it comes to their forecasting! Too bad that line continued to weaken. We had rain, but it wasn't nearly what it could have been...

Jamie - I still wonder whether these will weaken quite a bit past state line as they encounter cool, stable outflow air from storms to our south earlier in the evening.
It will be interesting (in a sad way) to see if they do.

AMAZING. That line of storms is falling apart. We have had a little bit of rain in Overland Park, but NOTHING major. This pattern is nuts!
By the way, the reason I said what I said before about everystorm turning out to be a bust is because although much of the area may or may not get rain, everytime widespread rain is forecast, it never happens. It always goes North, South or East of the main Metro area.
Last week is a GREAT example of Mother Nature's tricks.
NWS issued a Flash Flood watch for several inches of rain. Then then dropped the watch for the northern counties. A severe thunderstorm developd in the Overland Park area, moved off to the east. SPC issues a Severe Thunderstorm watch, but nothing happend overnight. Then the heavy rain that was forecast for KC and south, falls to the north where the watch was dropped. Go figure that one out!
Tonight, there is a line of storms, but as it moves through the metro area it falls apart. I saw it happen on radar. We had no thunder here, no winds or anything in Ovelrand Park, yet radar shows it right over head. This pattern is AMAZING, and I think KC is under a spell! LOL. You guys have a very tough job! Keep up the good work!
So, is this pattern the cause of all this crazy weather? I wish NWS would buy into it because it would make them more accurate too! At least you guys are closer in your forecasts!

I'm not sure how much it rained here in Johnson County because I was in Topeka for the evening, but I can tell you it really POURED in Topeka for about 30 minutes. Pretty impressive!
HP:
At least you got to experience it at it's peak... that line of thunderstorms weakened as it rolled into the Metro... so many of us just had some LIGHT thunderstorm activity. And those in the Eastern part of the viewing area got NADA. :(
