Hotter we go!
TODAY'S NUMBERS:
HIGH: 87
LOW: 59
POLLEN: LOW
MOLD: MODERATE
It has been another nice summer day for us in Kansas City and the surrounding counties! Farther off to our east... this afternoon... a few thunderstorms developed:

There was a weak upper wave that moved through, helping to kick off that activity. We also have a cold front to our north... and ahead of that feature, we have seen additional thunderstorm development. Here is ESP this evening:

These spotty thunderstorms will be affecting the western/northern part of our viewing area this evening... update... a small cluster of thunderstorms will move through the immediate metro... producing some quick, heavy rainfall, small hail and gusty winds. Nothing severe is expected, and they should continue to weaken/deminish as the sun sets.
It looks like the front will stall out over us for Wednesday... providing a big temperature contrast from north to south. Up towards the MO/IA state line... highs will be near 80... and down in our southern viewing area... highs will be in the lower-to-mid 90s. Here in KC, I am thinking we'll be in the upper 80s to right around 90 degrees. It will really depend on where that front sets up, but overall, I think it will be a warm day for us! I have kept a 30% chance of a spotty thunderstorm, too... much like we saw today.
Jeff and I were talking yesterday about how crazy it is that we are looking at/forecasting these SMALL thunderstorms and rain chances... while all along the East Coast, they have had TONS of rain and flooding. Some areas have seen more rain than we have seen all YEAR.
Here is a cute viewer picture of the Purtill family's lab:

Matt sent this in... he says Sara LOVES the patio table! They moved the patio chairs so that she couldn't get up on the table... but she still jumped up! He even put up a 38-inch-high gate, and says she scales that, too! How funny!
Have a good one,
Jamie

That thunderstorm complex up by Marysville, KS, do you think it will hold together to affect us in Southern Douglas County?
RYAN:
It is weakening as it moves south. There is maybe a 20% chance you will see rain in Douglas County... and it would likely just be a passing shower.

Hi Guys
I just watched your forcast. I am not understanding why you guys forget that the City of Belton is included in the metro??
We had one heck of a lightening show going out here. We only got 0.004 inch of rain but we got one heck of a show. Do you guys not have a weather watcher out here?? Please let me know.
MARY:
I don't think I really mentioned ANY Metro cities... just using the word "Metro" to cover all of those affected by that cluster of thunderstorms. I did say that some places picked up anywhere from a few hundreths to two tenths of an inch. We would love to get a report from you anytime you get significant weather in Belton.
Thanks!

amazing how it goes from one extreme to the next around here.. anyhow, had yet more rain last night.. now up to just over 3.5" for the month. added a little over a third of an inch yesterday. wife said we also had some tiny hail with the storm. and of course it had to happen while i was at work. i hate to ask this as well, but any new updates on when we can see weather plus streaming?
GLEN:
You are lucky to have your 3.5"! Thanks for keeping us up to date on your rainfall! I have not heard back about streaming Weather Plus, but I will post something when I do!
Thanks,
Jamie

So now that we are in the slow part of the season..when do we get a sneak peak of some of the GRC analysis? Also, when can we expect some of the content upgrades to the site that we submitted awhile back? I am very happy with this blog and would like to see it even better!
[GRC=Gary Recurring Cycle]
SCOTT:
Hey, there... Gary is back tomorrow... check back with him then!!

Is this worth watching for the metro?
"at 350 PM CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size hail... and
damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. This storm was located near Rossville... or about 16 miles west of Topeka... moving east at 10
mph."
SCOTT:
It is actually moving southeast... and very slowly. We do have a chance for spotty thunderstorms across the whole area this evening. But anything would have to get going north of us to drift our way. The reason it's so spotty, is because we are lacking in moisture.

Very excited that the chance for rain on the 4th was taken out of the forecast!
HI, MARLINA:
It is still something to keep an eye on... not a done-deal yet, as it is a long ways down the road!
