To rain or not to rain?
The latest NAM model finally has us in some rain this weekend. With an upper low spinning our way, although it really is a weak system, it should rain. At this time of year it will shock me if we don't have at least one good thunderstorm sometime by Sunday morning. But, I have been shocked many times in this pattern.
More later with the new data.

Gary,
With the low pressure near by tomorrow, what is the chance of severe weather, and if there is severe weather, how likely will it be to see tornadoes? Also, I am going swimming tomorrow in Raytown about 10am, am I going to be rained on?
Jacob,
It may rain, but we really don't have many ingredients for severe thunderstorms. The best chance may come during the morning Saturday. We will try to time it out tonight at 10 PM.

Gary - The NAM may have precip, but the GFS spouts out rain all around us, with KC in its usual dry slot area. And...if you think it is boring now folks, according to the GFS (which I don't think has really been that great this year, along with the other models)
the July 4th weekend will be very hot and of course, very dry. What else is new?
Hope my grass doesn't get rain, unless it is a ton - I don't want to mow for a while, and it is turning a nice, beautiful crispy brown.
Dog
Doglet,
The GFS does have a few cold fronts coming through before the heat builds at the end of the GFS. There is some hope, but we all know how horrible this pattern is. And, this storm moving our way is as ridiculous as it gets. Hopefully it will surprise us and really give us a deluge Saturday. But, something is still wrong.

Gary - Oh well, at least we can watch lightning bugs - we'd better concentrate on our other hobbies - dogs, my hand-looming etc... We will just have to wait until next year. A question for you though, when the pattern dies, can the transition in Fall prove wet? Has it ever up here - I don't really know. I know, I know, I'm grasping at straws here for some hope.
Dog
Doggy,
The transition from August to October is very chaotic. But completely different than the pattern that dies. So, there is hope.

Dog mentioned lightning bugs. They are super thick this year! Any weather related reason? I don't recall this many ever. Dusk is a fantastic time. Oh well, something good to come of our boring spring.
HANK:
I noticed lots of lightning bugs, too... so has my dog! She likes to chase them in the yard... it is quite funny! :) The only thing I can think of... is perhaps the mild winter has something to do with how many there are?

So do u think these storms will make it to Appleton City. Im gonna be disappointed if they dont. If they do do u think it will be severe
DANIEL:
The thunderstorm complex weakened as it moved our way. There is a chance for more thunderstorms later today, but they will be hit-and-miss. The chance for severe weather is quite low, but if you do see a thunderstorms watch for heavy rain and some gusty winds.

Gary, anyone???
What happened? Last night the rain looked very impressive and I was really hoping it would make it here. I guess I'll have to get a second job to pay for my water bill this summer :)
PS..I think you all are wonderful and I love watching you. Gary, your girls are just too adorable!!
DONNA:
The thunderstorm complex just weakened as it moved into our area. The air must have been too stable to support it. See my blog entry this am.
Thanks for posting!

Gary-I know this is not weather related however I have a dog question that if you have time to respond I would appreciate it! Sam,my 12 yearold Lab, is suffering from arthritis in his hind quarters and I did start him on rimadyl which I know carries significant side effects however I will try anything to promote his comfort and quality of life in his senior years. He is experiencing staggering and loss of strength is his back legs-I am taking him off the rimadyl I think, and would like to know what you do for your oldest dog-glucosimine, diet,etc...Thanks for your input-we are huge dog lovers and love seeing your dogs with you on tv.
Thanks, Karen
Karen,
Windy, amazingly, is getting closer to her 17th birthday. It is hard to explain, but even today she is just doing fantastic. Her appetite picked up during the past two days for some reason. She weighed 55 lbs about 2 years ago, and now she weighs about 36 lbs. This weight is actually a good one, but certainly on the skinny side of good. I believe her weight being down has helped her ability of getting up and down on her own.
Two years ago I heard about this LIMU PLUS juice that is extracted from a tropical seaweed plant. It is somewhat tasty and meant for the immune system strength of humans but also used in animals. Windy drinks this almost every day. I soak one slice of bread cut up in the juice and then she eats the bread with all of the juice. She also has a coral calcium pill every day which also comes from where we get Limu Plus.......www.vitamark.com.
Windy also chews three Cosequin tablets every day. They are chewables. I am not sure if they do anything for her, but the combination of all of the above seems to help her. Or she is just an amazing dog. She can still see well, and her hearing is barely there, but she can still hear a bit.
I hope this helps.

Thanks Gary for your info-I appreciate your help. I will try anything to try to help Sam improve and I will definitely try out the juice, calcium, and cosequin. I teach Kindergarten in Blue Valley and we love the weather!! We graph it everyday, know all the moon phases, and basic cloud formations. The kids love discussing it! Thanks again-Karen Osborn
