7:45 PM update
Good evening, Live ESP radar is showing a decreasing area of thunderstorms. This is a very strange evening and I am not liking these trends. An outflow boundary is moving away from the thunderstorms and nothing is forming on it. Thunderstorms will likely begin forming north of the outflow boundary and we could be in for some heavy thunderstorms. The futher south you are the less likely these thunderstorms will make it to you. We'll see.
Up north there are 14 severe thunderstorm warnings right now. The main threat continues to be wind.

Gary I agree with u its not looking good at this moment this is really frustrating lets hope something develops soon and gives us a nice rain also if it dont rain wont the temperatures be more closer to a 105 since there wont be as much moisture in the ground?
--------------------
Jeremy,
Thunderstorms are growing again, but I am still concerned.

Dang...I'm still hoping, nothing severe but just alittle rain..
Gary, I have a what is probaby a really dumb question. You know how people say that the pollen counts are always higher in the morning? My question is this. Does the time of day effect the humidity levels also? Or is it the fronts and the little impulses that move along them that effect the humidity levels. I know this is probably a stupid question but I was just curious..
-------------------
Relative humidity is always higher in the morning, but it is also influenced by many factors. The dewpoints sometimes do go up in the afternoon.

The sky is turning pretty dark and the wind is picking up in Liberty at 8pm. I guess we will see what this line has to offer here shortly...

Gary,
Watching the radar tonight and this is very frustrating. I'm beginning to think there is a large bubble over the Kansas City Area that is keeping us from getting significant rainfall. :-)
Seriously, what causes this to happen. Is it a CAP in the atmosphere causing stablization?
Best regards,
Don Hassinger

Don,
There is still a lot of hope. It isn't even sunset yet.

Gary,
Looking at the radar it seems that thuderstorms keep rapidly devolping off to the northwest. My hopes for rain keep going up for OP tonight as they get closer. What do you think will happen now. Do you still think there is a cap over us.
Thanks
-------------------
Jeff,
This last area of rain should hit us after midnight.

Is there something we have done to anger the almighty in the Northland? We are in the gap between the cells according to the radar and may miss the whole thing. First the wall of water is broken up by the gust front, then it makes a hard turn and may miss us all tegother. This is not looking good for us at all.

Blake,
You finally must have been hit.

Gary, I teach meteorology at a local Jr. College and was wondering if you have an animated view of radar that you can show. ESP update is to slow(5min) for my taste and would like to see a current sweeping radar event.
---------------
Eric,
We strongly recommend the National Weather Service website for the looping radar, and one of these days we will have evolved and it will be on our website.

Yeah! It's pouring just north of Smithville. We've been holding our breath wondering if these black clouds would hold out on us again...but for the last 10 minutes or so it has been pouring! (9pm)
As always Gary, we appreciate your passion for the weather, and for the crew that works with you to keep us up-to-date!
Thanks for all you do!

Lisa,
You are in the band.

Gary,
After I wrote the first message the line finally filled in along Barry Road, 2 miles west of I-29. We had a brief heavy shower, enough for four tenths of an inch of rain. I hope the next batch of rain in Kansas will not be eaten by the gust front like the last storm. Will it make it?
Blake (in the hopefully not for much longer Northland Sonora Desert)

Blake,
Fortunately you are in it, sort of. Hopefully you get some more rain.

Nothing in Gardner as of 9:32pm. Will it likely stay to the north and east of us? I guess we can't complain after the rainfall we got on Tuesday.
-------------------------
Erin,
Yes, at this moment I am worried about areas to the south.

Gary, is it just me, or is the rain moving more towards the east than southeast? Down in Kingsville we have some wind and can see lightning, but not a drop of rain yet. How frustrating!! Do you think it will go south of 1-70 or just stay north?
----------------
Kimberly,
It is now shifting south of I-70, but it may die soon. There is one last band of rain, so let's see how this holds together.

Just .3" here in Greenwood, but I guess we can't be greedy as we got 1.5" two nights before. Was driving home from the airport right before the storm, what a lightning show!
TIM:
Thanks for the update! It was a pretty exciting night, that's for sure!

Well, it may not have looked like Gardner was going to get hit, but we did. I would love to know what the rain totals were for Gardner. It sounded like another few inches fell!
----------------
Erin,
I would guess that you had just under one inch or rain last night. You had a nice band of heavier rain come through around 1 AM.

we ended up with just short of .50 in Shawnee last night, we'll take it!!!!
-------------------
Jon,
Shawnee is one of the spots that never quite got a deluge of rain during the past week, but at least you have had some rain out of each one.

Another .45 inches here in Lawrence. Not bad, that combined with the previous rain events should help keep things alive through the heat wave, as long as it doesn't last too long.
----------------------
John,
New data is coming out. The problem we have at this time of the year is climatology. It is suppose to be the hottest time of the year during the next month, so even if we break it the heat could come back again. But, overall don't you think this summer has been nice to us. We have had just enough rain thus far.

was kind of curious how much rain we got in Merriam. Seems like out of the last 2 events we kinda got screwed. First went just south of us and last nights went east and west.
BRANDON:
The best way to keep tabs of rainfall in your neighborhood is to get a rain gauge for your yard. By the looks of the doppler estimated rainfall totals... I would say you got anywhere from a quarter to three quarters of an inch.
