HEAT ADVISORY
TODAY'S NUMBERS:
HIGH: 95
LOW: 73
Well, the NWS has issued a HEAT ADVISORY for portions of the viewing area for Sunday and Monday. It is mainly for our Kansas Counties... and for our counties on the Missouri side... that are right down the State Line:

Temperatures will be in the upper 90s, close to 100 degrees... and again our heat index values will be between 100 and 105... HOT!!
We also have another OZONE ACTION DAY for Sunday... and this will probably continue into the beginning of the week, too... as nothing is really changing for us!
This is definitely A/C weather, that's for sure! If you don't have A/C... try to hit the mall, a library or a movie. And as you may know, NBC Action News is a media partner for Project ElderCool. ElderCool provides air conditioning for Kansas City’s low-income elderly. If you or someone you know is need, please call Bishop Sullivan Center at 816-231-0984.

Jamie,
I agree with many of the other responses about Weather Plus. It is a great feature!
Hopefully, this weather pattern will finally come to an end soon, because this has been the warmest first six months of a year since records have been kept. (A bad weather pattern + global warming)

DEVIN:
I know, I read that story yesterday... pretty amazing stuff. Gary is going to have an in-depth story on Global Warming in a few weeks. We will post the date/time info once we know!
Thanks for the nice comments about WP!!

Jamie - Weather ghastly, global warming intensifying. July-August will cook the ground, despite the rain received. If it gets too dry, people should water around their foundations to prevent cracking, which will most likely be necessary in the next few weeks.
What hideous weather - BTW southern Arizona at least is seeing some nice Monsoonal activity. I predict (gut feeling) that this high will maintain or at least reestablish itself through late August, possibly into September - it's too strong to be pushed out too much.

DOG:
Hopefully we get some rains here and there. We are caught up for the month, but still more than 7 1/2 " below average for the year.

Hi Jamie:
I have a question. The Dew Point is VERY HIGH. I do not think I have ever seen the Dew Point at 74. Then again, I lived in Michigan so maybe down here it is different. We had the DP reach 70 or 71, but when that happened we always had some kind of severe weather.
With the Dew Point at 74, why is there no rain in the forecast? The RH is 77%, you would think that clouds would form, and it would rain. Is it becase there is no lift, and there is nothing for to cause the storms to develop such as a cold front or warm front? Is there a major CAP? I know we have High Pressure over us, and I know with High Pressure, Thunderstorms don't form accept for the "Ring of Fire," around the High Pressure. I just was curious.
Lastly, it has been a record year for warm tempeatures for 2006. Does this have anything to do with Gary's weather pattern theory?
Thanks!
Brian

I am going to do a blog entry about this!

Sup guys,
Global warming my hind end. Ice ages and warming have all happened before and will continue to happen regardless of what we do. Wasn't it just 15-20 years ago the media was in an uproar over the coming of the next Ice Age!? Science has only studied weather for a comparatively short time, and to think that after that short time of study that we now know our affect on the environment is prideful at best and downright irresponible at worst. Weather is a cycle and to think that the Industrial Revolution and more to the point Western Civilization is the cause of what is wrong weather wise is sad. I say let's study, without agenda and without finger pointing; and be scientific. Learn because we want to know how things work.
Enough of my rant. Just want people to realize theory is just that, theory. Not fact. So think for yourselves, research and study for yourselves, and get involved in the process no matter what conclusion you come to.
See ya

BRANDON:
I don't want to get into a Global Warming debate... but you can't deny that temperatures ARE warming. Yes, part of it is probably due to cycles... but humans are likely contributing as well. We are going at a rate never seen before. In my opinion... every little thing we do will help! But, yes, I agree... people should research for themselves, and not just take what they are handed.

Hi Jamie,
We enjoy having you "live"on air on Sunday morning's. We had nearly 4inches during this past rainy period down here in rural Rockville. It is HOT today!
Bob and Dorothy
DOROTHY:
Thanks for posting! I am glad you are watching over the weekend... and thanks to Weather Plus... my schedule changed to allow me to be here on the weekend mornings. I think it's great, because we can continue to bring you the most accurate forecast around! Thanks for your rainfall report... hope it's not too hot for you!

Hello again-
Jamie wrote "We are going at a rate never seen before." That's my whole point, even so we've only been studying weather temps for a few hundred years and we've only been settled in Kansas and Missouri for what 175 years(?). So who knows if this is out of the norm for here.
My biggest concern is when scientists give opinion as fact. You think "we" are contributing, but you don't know. When you say it that way, people read and hear what you say and think it must be.
The rotting leaves in the Amazon rainforest contribute more greenhouse gases than "we" do.
I apologize is I come off as harsh, i really do. But you and the weather team have influence just by the position you are in.
I look forward to the special on Global warming and hope it isn't too one sided.
See ya
