Much cooler & rain!
Good evening everyone,
We are getting ready for the newscast with the new data rolling in. It appears our chance of rain is going way up and the cold front is rather strong considering the heat wave we are in. Today hit 104 degrees at KCI. It was hotter than this in August 2003. But, now it is about to break with temperatures Friday possibly dropping into the 60s, that's right the 60s. Most likely it will drop into the 70s, but if it rains 60s are likely Friday afternoon. Ahhhhhhhh!

Gary,
I can not believe this, Someone is talking about the Atlantic Ocean leading to a positive NAO and next winter's forecast. This is really amazing, because you have said that SSTs have nothing to do with the GRC! I am a believer in your weather pattern theory:)
Devin

Devin,
You are exactly right and we will have our winter forecast when the pattern begins setting up this fall, and will be unique, brand new. I don't believe you can predict what will happen during the winter until at the very earliest late October, and more likely November. But, I can say now that I can't imagine a pattern as bad as this one was.

Gary, did you see the KC Star yesterday? They had a chart calculating heat index from temperature and RH. For their example, they chose a combination of 95 degrees and 90% humidity!
Now that you are forecasting for the Star, could you let them know that this never, ever happens? Yesterday, for example, when the temperature was 95 the humidity was only 46%. 95 degrees and 90% RH would mean the dewpoint was 90 or so!

Rob,
Unfortunately, the Star doesn't come to me for advice. They go to other sources and I just don't understand why.

I'm amazed at how much the temp is going to be dropping with this latest cold front. My question is, whats the severe weather setup looking like? The cap should break down with all this intense cold air, right?
Jeff

This just isn't a severe weather set up. I just want those temperatures to fall.

What is the highest temperature recorded for the Kansas city area on record?
MARLINA:
For KCI that would be 113 degrees on August 14, 1936. That was a REALLY hot year!!!!

Gary,
I see the end of the heat for time being but i'm still sweating it out. I saw something that was put on tv that said that this heatwave was a sign of global warming. Is any part of this true?
----------------
Tim,
I am doing a special on Global Warming Tuesday night.
One heatwave, like this one, is not a sign of Global Warming. We get heatwaves all of the time. It really is something that has to be studied over a long period of time.

I noticed we could be trending towards another heat wave though not as bad, we can we expect this current pattern to break.
Kind regards
---------------------
Steve,
We may have another heat wave, but the models have delayed it a bit. It now doesn't look like it would set back up in the next 7 days at least.
