End of week rain & dogs night out

Good evening everyone,

The end of the week has a similar set up to what just happened. It is only Monday so it will look differently each day as it approaches. The latest GFS has over 5 inches across northern Kansas and northern Missouri between Friday night and Sunday. Remember we are in a different pattern now and as we just saw the precipitation distribution was very different. So, next weekend there is hope.

Dog's night out was Saturday night at the Wizards. It was a lot of fun. Breezy, Stormy and about 125 dogs and their owners had a great time. Below are a few pictures. I hope you enjoyed the cooler weather today, now enjoy these pictures.

Sunday Night's thunderstorms that moved through St. Joseph were neat to watch. I enjoyed watching the leading edge of the rain cooled air roll in in front of the storms(not a well defined shelf cloud, but the clouds were impressive anyway). After it had started to rain the streets had steam rising from them, that was really cool!

Nick,

You were hit pretty hard. Nice rainfall amounts from your area.

Great pictures! I've decided you know we really need rain when you can literally walk across part of the Missouri River.

Marlina,

We need three or four more days like Sunday night and the Missouri River would fill up.

I plan on looking at this weekend with tomorrow's run. I know for sure the GRC died, as the tropics are acting a bit different too now. Sheer has dropped quite a bit, and I expect some storms soon.

In the sneak peak of this weekend and looking at the 500, looks interesting. Seems the cold fronts have picked up a bit of strength. ;-)

Scott,

Everything has changed, but it is still acting like it is suppose to. It is August.

I'm back! I just saw your forcast for Friday the 18th. That is the day I picked so it looks like I still have a chance! (Mabye the Hottest day will be the last hot day!)
-----------------
Nick,

There is a chance, but right now it appears it will be closer to 100.

Good Morning Gary:

Wow, what a nice cool down! I am so gald it is cooler (at least for now.) Your forecast is very interesting. I see that you are forecasting 101 for Friday. NWS only has 92. My guess is they are thinking more clouds (that is what happened last time.) But like you said in your blog, it is a long aways off yet.

I hope we get some good storms this time in Overland Park!

Brian,

The front is really in Nebraska Friday. The hottest temperatures are often closer to the front. But, we should get close to 100 degrees and watch for the potential cloud cover and showers that ruined last weeks big hot day.

Weather Team-I have been waiting months for my hometown Oakland A's to come back to KC. And now that they are you are calling for 103 degrees on Friday. Please tell me that is a joke. Also the rain on Saturday-day rain or evening rain? The last time the A's came to town in April, the game was cancelled due to rain. Let it be a deluge all day on Sat, but just be done by 610pm, if you can ;-)
Thanks.

Ivy,

It is going to be hot on Friday but then I am concerned for evening thunderstorms. Have your umbrella handy.

Gary,

With all the hot temperatures this summer, and with the pattern "dead," perhaps we can declare a winner to the hottest day contest soon? I'm just sick of all the heat...

Maybe we could start focusing on the arrival of fall with a first-freeze contest? My guess is October 20th at 4:55 a.m.. :) Care to venture a guess?
-----------------
Drew,

We aren't going to have a first freeze contest but the annual snowflake contest begins in October. Details to follow soon.
