Rain Rain Raaaaiiiiiin!
Flooding has been a problem through the overnight... with more heavy rain across the area. Here is a look at Doppler estimated rainfall totals from just the overnight period:

Isolated areas around and through the Metro received 3+ inches of rain overnight... and off to the East... some spots total 4-5 inches since midnight. Now keep in mind, that all of this is on TOP of 2-3" that has already fallen in many spots. You can see how flooding continues to be a concern. Area waterways are running high... use caution around them. We also have more rain in the forecast for today and Monday... so remember the "Turn Around Don't Drown" mantra when approaching a water covered roadway!
Much like yesterday, we will go through a dry period today... but showers and thunderstorms are possible at any time. Overnight is when we are once again expecting the heavy stuff... so stay tuned! And keep the rainfall totals coming in... I will try to get a Bloggers Rainfall grapic together for the news tonight.

Ernesto could become a MAJOR hurricane before making landfall in the US.
More later... have a good day!

Hi Jamie,
Wow we finally got to be one of those spots that get all the rain! We are at 87th and Metcalf in Overland Park and have gotten 6.26 inches of rain since Friday.
Are we going to get another dose tonight? Can you time it out for us?
Thanks
Todd
TODD:
There are showers and thunderstorms developing to our west right NOW (1pm). They will move into the area and we will see scattered activity through the afternoon. Heavy rain is possible, and the chance continues overnight.

Hi Jamie,
First of all, we have 1.84 inches of rain here in south Raytown since last night. That brings the total here in south Raytown to 3.50 inches since Friday night. That is welcome news!
Secondly, the 11 AM EDT advisory is out for Jurricane Ernesto. The winds are still near 75 MPH. The estomated pressure is 29.44 or 997 MB. Yikes on the path! Let's hope Enesto never makles to the US coast. We don't need a hurricane to hit the US.
Kristi
KRISTI:
Thanks for your rainfall totals! It doesn't look good for the Gulf Coast... Ernesto is forecast to strengthen in the Gulf! And the slow-moving storm system that is effecting US in KC... is one of the reasons Ernesto's path has shifted to the east. Pretty amazing.

In Prairie Village, my rain guage shows 3.5" Friday night and 3.9" Saturday night. Is that possible?
BRIAN:
Yes, that is possible. Olathe has had 6" in the past 2 days... and some spots have seen even more than that.

How far are we behind in our rainfall total after last night?
KAREN:
Believe it or not, as of 7am we are still -7.19" in the hole for the year. That will likely change this afternoon... I will post an update.
The good/bad news... we are now 2.12" OVER average for the month. But when that happens... flooding becomes a concern!

Hi Jamie,
Update from Gardner - last night's deluge certainly made up for the lighter rain we received Friday night...3.25" just last night! That puts my overall total at 4.15".
I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I hope today and tonight's rain will actually be on the light side - my sump pump could use the break! :)
Terry
TERRY:
It could be too much of a good thing... as more is coming today/tonight.

Do you think the rain event tonight will be as heavy as the past two nights? I know the National Weather Service was considering posting a flash flood watch for points along and south of the Missouri River.
KINLEY:
Yes, the rain event today/tonight definitely has the potential to be just as heavy. But where will the heaviest rain fall? We have to see where it sets up.

Wow... 6.5 and counting. More thunderstorms are developing right NOW!

Wow-what happened? I went to Branson over the weekend and when I got home this morning, my rain gauge in Kingsville had 3 inches of rain in it! Not to mention the half inch we got Friday before we left. I just wish I was here to enjoy it!!!
KIM:
No worries... you just might get more rain to enjoy today/tonight/Monday!!

Hey Jamie...I'm looking for a weather station to put in my backyard that will measure rain, wind, temp, etc...I've been looking at models by Davis...do you have any recommendations? Also, we received another 2.25inches in Grain Valley last night bring our 2 day total to 5.40in.
CHRIS:
Jeff and I have not really had experience with these personal weather stations. We both have regular old rain gauges... so we are pretty low-tech! But from what I have seen online... Davis seems a good product!
Sorry I'm not of more help...

No sooner did I just get done stating my rain totals for today and yesterday and for the month, did I start to go take care of something else, and it just blew up with a blossom right on me! That was crazy needless to mention that it was rather odd and coincidental too? How funny! Here is the URL to the image to show that it just popped up to say hi I guess:

.32 inches in roughly 10-15 minutes, up to 1.82 inches for the day that quick. I got lakes in my yard now, can I get a boat from someone to get to my car? hahaha
Thanks! And chat later, work time now!

Adding to Emma, MO's rain totals as I commented yesterday, we picked up 1.4" overnight last night, meaning 5.2" total since the Thursday-Friday rain commenced.
Thanks, also, for keeping us posted on the tornado in Lafayette County.
PASTOR SNYDER:
Thanks for your totals... and for watching our storm coverage. Thankfully, the tornado threat is over.

Wow, the begining of the Emmy broadcast looked like it was pretty funny. It's too bad we didn't get to see it.
DAVE:
Hey, maybe it will be on youtube over the next few days? Actually, it's airing again MONDAY on the BRAVO network at 4pm.
Sorry... it's station policy...
1) tornado warning in Metro
2) tornado confirmed on ground
Both of these scenarios mean we are on the air. Thankfully the tornado threat has come to an end... so you lost less than 10 min of the Emmys. Sorry for the trouble...
