Today is a strange day
A lot of you are writing in and I will get to the comments soon. One blog comment just came in saying why does our website say 94 and we still have 106 in the Blog. Brett Anthony has decided that these clouds will hang in there and it will keep the high down to 94. It is clear just west of Kansas City and I would just prefer us to go down with the ship on today's forecast if it does stay cloudy. But, if the sun comes out early this afternoon and we make a run into the 100s then it is better to just stick with it. So, we may be very wrong today.
Some will call or write in or email me saying how horrible our forecast was for today. And, rightly so. But, if you get 9 forecasts right in a row and then blow one then that is 9 out of 10 in my book or 90% accuracy. So, today it this unusual day.
I am not even sure where these thunderstorms are coming from. It has literally been driving me a bit nuts. But, I am over it now. Let's see what happens this afternoon as this zone of developing thunderstorms shifts east. Maybe this is just the finale of this horrible weather pattern.

I think this yucky weather pattern just wants to put in one last hurrah before it dies completely away.

Cassandra,
Yes, it does.

You don't have to defend yourself for your loyal fans, we know you're the best, and I'm sure many of us agree that if you get 9 out of 10 forecasts right, you're doing very well. Don't stress out over today, there's always be tomorrow. I'm actually very glad you didn't nail it this time. I didn't want it to be 106 degrees!
-----------------
Koyuki,
I can't help but get a bit stressed. Jeff Penner just called and it is driving him nuts too.
At least it is raining!

Gary, I am not suprised that the GRC would leave this suprise for you today. You should have expected it. The GRC is in code blue. It will die today-tomorrow, as I had mentioned a few blogs ago. The winds aloft have changed. I am still sticking with my forecast of Sunday's temp doing the same as today. I think it was 2-3 days ago I indicated 92 as my high for Sunday. We shall see.
Curious...having seen the GRC repeat time and time again this year, does the team have a GRC bias in trying to predict the forecast at the time of the GRC death? I would seem natural to think about the GRC trends as it dies which may make it harder to be objective? Dunno...not criticizing..trust me..I know this is tough to forecast [been pulling my own hair out trying to get a grip on the changes].
The winds of change are underway.

Scott,
Today is just a crazy day. And, now more thunderstorms are forming between here and the front.

Today it doesn't matter who was right, or who was wrong, how hot or not so hot it was/will be. Bottom line.....RAIN=happy people!!

Ivy,
Exactly and I am enjoying it. It is still baffling though.

I wrote yesterday saying that we just moved from Chicago... The weather is even stranger here than in Chicago. I learned quickly that hardly any of the forecasts are very reliable... Why is it so difficult to predict the weather here?
-----------------
Kelly,
Please don't judge all of our weather forecasts just based on today. Oh, today is really ridiculous, but we are usually right. And you will notice.
Anyway, there are many reasons that the weather can change suddenly. Today, though completely took me for a loop. I just think it was impossible to predict today's situation.

If you have to be wrong, I would rather you say its gonna be 106 and turn out to be 90 than the other way around. However, I will overlook the fact that you were off just because I am so happy to see the rain!! Keep up the good work weather team.
-------------------
Keri,
Thank you! Now, let's get more rain. At least make it worth it.

Gary, in certain insurance policies there is a clause called "Act of God". I believe every now and again the act of God influences the weather. If I can't explain it, then it must be out of my control. Today might just simply be an "Act of God". Keep up the great work and please, when you figure out the dynamics of today that caused the unexpected, let us know. Thanks.

Mike,

Im looking forward to the fall weather and winter. Lets start working on that. I am tired of the heat and ready to open the windows again.

Team,
I will never loose my confidence in you guys. You all do a great job. I have been driving in and out of some good down pours. However, as i have told you in the past. I have missed a lot of the rains in western kck where i live. Today again so far not much here. Seems to be out south again. Maybe a better chance tonight?

Gary,
We just had a big downpour in Atchison. It began to get dark and then just came pouring down. Will these "cooler" temps hold down the thunderstorms tonight?
-----------------
Matt,
Probably! Let's see how it sets up. But, the farther south the better, at least how it looks right now.

Gary- I live in the northland and no rain here (not yet) and we have friends N of Smithville who farm and they too are waiting for the rain. We will keep our fingers crossed!
In response to Kelly- I think if you compare the weather forecasts in KC you will find that Gary, Brett, Jeff and Jamie are THE most accurate weather team in town. Do a little spreadsheet with the different forecasts for a few weeks or month and see for yourself!

Thanks tooti,
Hopefully you will get some rain too.
