FIRST FROST?

The pattern the next 6-10 days will be characterized by northwest flow. This time of year this means mainly dry weather with roller coaster temperatures. Cold & warm fronts will be zipping by with little or no moisture to work with.

There is a system to watch for Wednesday-Friday that will dive south into the Midwest, carving out a pretty deep trough (see upper flow for Thursday below). This will drag a strong cold front through Wednesday night. By Thursday night Canadian high pressure wil be sitting right near KC. This will provide for perfect radiational cooling conditions (light winds, clear skies & dry air). Our temperatures could drop into the mid 30s. This means Friday morning we have a chance for our first frost of the new cold season.

Yep..this is my strong cold front. After that, we should get a low that looks like a cut off, or will have some NE blocking. Then the next shortwave, then the next strong cold front.

I am still thinking the front for late October will bring the first snow.

i dont have anything to say about this blog. but i do have a question
you see i live in the cayman islands...and my home is kc metro. yes? i was wondering what is the difference between the tropical storms here and the storms there? i mean i can totally see a difference in the coulds. but what makes a tropical storm a tropical storm? There is lotsa thunder, not so much lightening here. And it lasts a while. they are beautiful. But the rainy days never get super dark like they do in kc.

The tropical storms you experience are warm-cored systems... and the thunderstorms we see in KC come from cold-cored storm systems. A deep low pressure system that we see here in KC will have rising air through most of the troposphere (all levels of the atmosphere). Tropical systems are not AS deep, and they tend to weaken with height.

when was the first frost last year , and when does the Ragweed season end,
thx

FAWWAZA:
Last year, it looks like the first light frost was October 7th... when our morning lows dipped to 36 degrees at KCI, and 38 degrees downtown. It's usually the first FREEZE that puts an end to seasonal allergies, though. Last year, that happened during the month of November.
