Good morning everyone,
Today is Stormy's 6th birthday......Happy Birthday Stormy! And how appropriate, a storm is heading this way on Stormy's big day. There is a trend for the storm to dig a bit further south so let's look at the models today and see if this trend continues. I still feel that it will take a slightly further north track and we will be in the heavy rain Thursday night. There is also a disturbance heading our way this morning. You can see it on satellite over New Mexico. If it holds together, and it still is, then rain will begin developing by this afternoon just as I showed last night on the air, but the disturbance must hold together. I also think this will happen as well. The GFS has over 2 inches of rain, while the NAM has us on the edge of 1/2 inch of rain. If the upper level low goes south of Oklahoma City then the lower amount is likely. If it tracks closer to the Kansas/Oklahoma border then the 2 inches or more scenario could pan out.
Much more later today. Have a great day!

Gary I was wondering if you saw any snow in the forcast this winter? I know it is still early, but I am really wanting a good hard white winter. I know I still have to wait for you winter forcast, I was just wondering if you could give me a little hint LOL. I love all of you guys you are the only ones I trust and recommend. God Bless

Dee,
We don't see any chance of snow for a while. Just try to be patient.

Gary,
I'm going bowhunting Fri. and Sat. around Blackwater. Am I going to get a little wet, a lot wet, or should I just stay home and watch football?
--------------------------
Darin,
The rain is gone by Friday at noon and then it is dry for a few days!

Love the picture of you and the dogs. Always enjoy when they are on TV with you.
Am not liking these dark mornings and all.
Hope the rains are just good substancial ones.
-------------------------
Ginger,
It should be light a bit earlier again beginning Sunday with the time change.
I think it should be a nice widespread rain beginning later today.

Gary:
Sorry for the mis-understanding. I was not saying you were hyping the storm. By the way, NWS is say 50% today, and 70% tonight with sprinkles tomorrow. It is amazing how the forecasts are different. To be honest, I trust your forecasts more. It is the other stations who really hype, you just try to give the facts. Please understand I think your team is the best!
--------------------------
Brian,
I didn't mis-understand you at all. A storm is approaching and we want a nice rain event to enjoy and the pressure is on. It could still track south so we have to track it closely. Today is very tricky as well. But, I think by evening we should at least have some light rain around. The real test is later tomorrow as the upper low approaches.

Great pictures and Happy Birthday to Stormy! Looks like a big storm over the next two days. Keep up the good work. What does next week especially Thursday and Friday look like? Take care, Michael
-----------------
Michael,
The weather pattern continues to shift around, so next Thursday and Friday will change. It already looks much colder for Halloween on the new data this morning. So, it changes fast at this time of the year.

Gary,
I am driving out to Estes Park tomorrow afternoon. The NWS is predicting possible blizzard conditions in Eastern Colorado and I-70. Yikes...Please say it isn't so! I know your very busy, but any thoughts on that situation. Thanks for all the hard work you do and keeping us all informed. When will we see you on Letterman or Leno with the dogs? :-)
Best regards,
Don Hassinger
-----------------
Don,
I-70 is near the northern edge of this potential blizzard. So, it will be close. I will have to look at it this afternoon. The heaviest snow could go south of I-70 in eastern Colorado.

Gary & Team-
I just got an outdoor thermometer and wanted to know if you had any advice on where to place it to get the best readings (how high, what exposure, etc)? Might be good info for other aspiring weather hounds out there too.
Thanks for all your hard work and I can't wait for the winter forecast. Happy B-Day Stormy!
--------------------------
Wade,
You must place it out of a north window where the sun rarely if ever hits it. You can get very accurate readings this way.

Gary, we just need a bit of cold weather..and for the low to hit us right. Then my snowflake prophecy will be fulfilled! I think I put in Oct 28th/29th. Cant remember which one. Even today, thought that might have been a wasted vote..but if the cold air can follow in.....
-------------------------
Scott,
I understand why you picked that date. We are trending towards our first chance of snow, but it will likely come a little bit later.

Gary,
It seems like after this big storm moves by the models are completely confused. It seems as if they keep shifting between ridging and troughing in the Pacific. The coldest temps will likely be in the Upper Midwest and the interior northeast the next week to two weeks based on the GFS flow pattern.
Devin
-------------------
Devin,
Yes and no. The models are completely different every day right now as the weather pattern still is in the setting up phase.

Hi Gary:
This storm is very complex! It sounds like on Thursday, there will be a lull in the rain?
Does it still appear like storm is going to go south?
What is a trowal?
It looks like the rain might be below an inch? What is the latest data showing, and what do you think?
--------------------------
Brian,
A trowal is a trough of warm air aloft.
This is very complex. Some areas will get more than one inch and others may not. We are on the edge of what could be a very nice rain on Thursday night. Any further south and we get drizzle on Thursday night. Slightly further north we get over an inch.
