« A storm in two parts | Main | Comma head makes it to I-70 by midnight »

 October 26, 2006

Jamie Jarosik and will we get into the comma head?

Jamie Jarosik has decided to move back to her home town. Her last day will be this Sunday night. We tried to convince her to stay here in Kansas City, but she and her husband Ken decided to be closer to family and there is a great opportunity waiting for her in Dayton. Jamie was at KSHB for two years. She strengthened our weather department and it is very sad to have her leave, but we are excited for her new opportunity. Please leave her some kind words as you blog the next few days.

Tonight’s storm is rather strange. The models continue to insist that the comma head will be south of Kansas City. Maybe it will, but I am not going to give in until I see it develop this evening as I still feel we will get in on the rain overnight. I guess it could develop south of us, but a week or so ago the models did something similar and we had a nice rain. Hopefully the models are making a mistake again, but everyone of them has this missing us tonight. Then, a huge warm up is likely by Sunday.

I will have part 3 of my weather pattern theory on Monday. We continue to analyze the data. A very complex weather pattern is setting up, so more on Monday.

Oh no!!!! I am going to miss Jamie. But I can understand the need to be closer to family.

Jamie, you are going to be missed so much. It has been such a pleasure to watch you. We wish you nothing but the best in everything you do. And maybe you could check in on the computer from time to time?? :)

Good luck Jamie!!!

DONNA:
Thank you so much for the kind words! I cannot begin to tell you how much this blog has meant to me during my time in KC. It has been so fun to get to "know" all of you... and what an amazing experience to work with Gary, Jeff and Brett!! It was a tough decision, but to quote my favorite movie, "There's no place like home..."

I will definitely be a regular on the blog from Ohio!!!! :)

Jamie:

I believe I speak for the entire metro when I say we will miss you and hate to see you go!!! Wish Gary had been more forceful in convincing you to stay :), but it is important to be close as possible to family. Let us know if you will be on TV in Dayton - what is this opportunity? Best wishes for continued success and happiness. Guess this means Gary will have to work even harder!

GARY:
You are too kind! Thank you for your thoughts... it is definitely a bittersweet thing for me. On one hand, I am very excited to get back to my family... and on the other hand... I am extremely sad to leave all the wonderful people here in Kansas City! It *IS* a TV job in Dayton, and I will let you all know more once I am settled.
Thanks again,
Jamie

It will be very sad to see you go :-( You will definitely be missed. Is Ken from Ohio also? Please post on the blog from time to time, keep us updated on your life, and with pictures of Mags!

KOYUKI:
I will keep you posted on Ohio weather for SURE... and I will send Gary pictures of Mags, too. :) Ken is from Chicago, but he lived in Ohio with me for almost 4 years... so he feels at home there, too.

Jamie,
How will weekend weather forecasts survive without you??? You'll certainly be missed. Are you sure this is not a smokescreen for secretly starting a new career in dancing? :)
Good luck, Jamie!
Dan

DAN:
Unfortunately... there are no major league ballparks in Dayton for me to dance AT... I will have to make the drive to Cleveland or Cincy for that! :) I will miss you guys, too... thanks for everything!

Jamie,
Good luck with the new assignment in Ohio. You are a great meteorologist and will be missed by all! Just think, you will be in the sun-belt portion of Ohio away from the influence of the Great Lakes, and all the cloud cover! I know from experience from having lived in Northern Indiana. Good luck in Dayton!
Devin

DEVIN:
Actually... Dayton has quite a bit of gray throughout winter! My mom used to keep track of the days when the sun actually came OUT (I'm not the only one in the family that REALLY pays attention to the weather!) :)

Anyway, after spending a WARM winter here in KC last year... I have a feeling things will be a lot COLDER in Ohio THIS year!! Thanks for you kind words... it is so great to chat with people who have such a love for weather!

Jamie - The Dog will miss you and Mags. Parker would miss her, but he doesn't watch TV. More a food scrounger interest there.

Glad you got to see some rain before you left KC - nice rumbles of thunder last night.
And I think we should see something in the way of rainfall additionally here tonight.

Been through Dayton a few times - Ohio is pretty - settled originally by a lot of folks from New England. Also Dayton was the place where the nightmare in Bosnia was finally put to rest (Dayton Accords).

And isn't Dayton where they make tires? Firestone isn't it, or is it one of the others? I guess with all the rubber around, Dayton can bounce back from anything.

Take care,
StormDog

DOG:
Thank you so much... I will miss you and your doglets! :) You know, it's the strangest thing... a lot of people ask me about Dayton and tires. I do not know of any tire companies based in Dayton, though! We are known as the home of the Wright Brothers... Wright Patterson Airforce Base... UD Flyers basketball... Iams pet food is there... they have a GREAT airshow every summer... and it's a pretty big GM/Delphi town. Maybe that's where the tires thing comes from?
Anyway... this weekend will be sad. :(

Jamie, Jamie, Jamie...sigh. You are leaving so soon. Just when I had you almost believing the dark side of amateur meteorology. LOL. Its good to hear you will still participate in the blog..you bring some very good insight, and at times soften the blog a bit where folks like me can make it a bit too techy. Ohio is lucky to get you back..bring that human side with the ability to bring the complexities to a common level, and I know you will succeed! Take care!

Gary...side note..the rest of your team have big shoes to fill in Jamie's absense...I expect to see them step up in the blogs....

SCOTT:
How did I not know that was coming... :)

I remember when we started this blog... it was *almost* difficult to get the guys to post. But Gary has really developed a love for the blog and all of you. I am sure he will pass that along to the new person... and this blog will continue to be a fun, informative, and-- at times-- a techy place to learn! :) Thanks for the advice!

Jamie, having spent 22 years in the Air Force I understand how living away from family can tug at the heart. Even though you will be sorely missed, I say go home while the gettin is good! I could never make it back to Florida so I took plan "B" of creating my own family here and calling the Warrensburg area home. I have no doubt you will be successful wherever you go as your forcasts have always been flawless, professional, and entertaining. Thanks for keeping the blog exciting....you are the best at posting pictures and explaining the weather in simple terms for us. Good luck, God bless you, and safe journey. Please keep in touch!

Hello Kansas City Viewers,

Thank you for the many nice comments about our daughter, Jamie. It'll be great to have her home! The jury is still out as to whether or not Mags will be happy without that fabulous dog park, but having a granddog around will be fun, and we're hoping she'll adjust.

Jamie has said so many nice things about her viewers and co-workers that we know she'll miss you a lot. Gary, especially you, because Jamie has said more than once that you are on her favorite-people-ever-met list.

Thanks to all for supporting her while she's been away from home.

Jamie,

So glad to hear that you are coming back to Dayton!!!! You were one of our favorite meteorologists and it was sad to see you leave a couple of years ago. When we saw you the other night on air with Carl Nichols we about went through the roof with joy. We always enjoyed your smoothe delivery of the forecast and especially your calmness during severe weather broadcasts. You never raised your voice or got overly excited which was pleasant, some other meteorologists would have you believe we were under nuclear attack and not a thunderstorm. We are really looking forward to having you back on the best team of meteorologists in Dayton where I know you have been missed by many people. But by the sound of this blog, you are going to be equally missed in Kansas City. Can't wait until you are back on the air on Channel 2.
