Rain continues this evening
Good evening,
Rain continues to fall this evening as the main upper level system is passing through. I am not surprised at all. In the past year things like this just didn't happen. It is only light rain, but it is somewhat exciting.
The next challenge is Tuesday's high. If the sun breaks out by 11 AM then I think 78 degrees is possible. I may back off on the 10 PM newscast tonight depending on when we think it will clear. I may just stick to it.
Have a great evening.

The weather pattern must be really in flux right now, just reading the comments it seemed like you had different feelings as time went on even saying to my brother Richard that there was a SLIGHT chance of the "S" word! At least this lingering rain is making things "seem" to look up, hopefully it is a foreshadowing of the future, I know it's still to early, but a guy can hope can't he?

There is hope Nick so let's see how we feel in a few days.
I only got three hours of sleep last night after that ridiculous Arizona loss to the Bears. Arizona lead 23-3 in the fourth quarter and gave the game away. Dennis Green should be fired this morning. Anyway, back to the weather. It may be cloudy all day. Hopefully the sun works its way out.

Gary, It was nice to meet you on Saturday morning at Bed Bath and Beyond in Overland Park. I'm the guy who introduced himself as Tim and we talked about how Breezy was not use to children quite yet. I told my wife and kids that I had met you and they were very jealous. We plan our day around your blogs and newscasts in the morning on 980. It was very refreshing to meet a celebrity/personality that was like "a normal everyday type of person." I could not hold anything against you, other than being a Sooner (I'm a Jayhawk.)
Anyway, I'm looking forward to fall, as it is the most beautiful season of all, and your continued updates on the repeating weather pattern. I think your theory is absoulutely right. If your theory holds up are we looking at a fairly mild winter like last year with not much precip?
FYI, we live in Lee's Summit and we got about .25 inches of rain today. Not bad but we certainly could use more.
By the way, I manage that store in Overland Park. The next time you are in, look me up. I'd love to talk with you again. Sincerely, Tim Filley

Tim,
Thanks for the kind words. It was nice meeting you too.
The weather pattern isn't set up yet so it could do anything this winter from wet and cold to warm and dry. I hope for the wet and cold version, but since it isn't set up yet we don't know at this time. Just last night the 00z run of the GFS had the stormiest pattern I have seen in a long time, but then the 06z GFS just came out and has the warm and tamest pattern I have ever seen. So, the weather pattern is in massive transition right now. Let's see how we feel in another week or so.
Have a great day!

Gary,
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions the other day. I see you've been talking more about your weather pattern theory, as well as citing last year's setup as you aim to pin down the cycle for this year.
In support of your weather pattern theory, could you tell us approximately how long (how many days) last year's cycle was? Additionally, could you tell us about when it started? I'd be curious to see how that correlates with data from last winter/spring.
Thank you again for taking the time to field questions.

Jake,
I will attempt to go into as much detail as possible without it being out of context with our blog. I will do this when I issue the winter forecast in November.
Last year we had a 60 to 62 day cycle that began sometime in October or early November and then continued through winter, spring, and summer. It finally fell apart in August. I have the maps that show the same pattern. The year before that the cycle was around 75 days in length, and 54 days the year before that. So, it is very complex.

WE got about 1 1/4 inches of blessed rain at 291 and 3rd Street in Lee's Summit. Add that to the 3/4 of an inch we got last time, it is looking better! Better late than never!

Yes it is Debbie,
But, let's get some more.
