3 nights away and KCI thermometer

Good afternoon,

The thermometer at KCI airport is fixed. They changed the sensor today and it is reading more accurately, about 3 degrees cooler than it was reading. Yeah! Thank you all for sending in the complaints as this helped them realize there actually was a problem.

We are now 3 nights away from unveiling our winter forecast. Jeff and I are doing the analysis for the next hour and then we will have a better picture of what this pattern really is doing soon.

Gary - I will be interested to see what happens - I somehow think it will be better than last, but not terrific - rather in between last year and a semi-good year. Still better than last year, but that isn't saying a lot. I hope for better than my gut feeling though.

Cheers,
Dog

Dog,

To what extent will this years pattern be better than last years? We will know soon.

Gary,

Thanks for your help in bringing to the notice of NWS to fix the KCI thermometer. We will finally see KCI dip lower than the 30F! Looking forward to your Winter forecast.

It's about time!

Hi gary!! I'm Ali and i'm 15 and I wanted to ask you a few questions. I am really trying to figure out what I want to be as I get older. I have always been interested in weather and seriously thinking about getting into the perfession of meterology. I was wondering if you had any reccomendations on colleges or any pointers on how to get started. Thank you for your time!
-----------------------------------------
Ali,

The top 5 schools for meteorology in the nation are: University of Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Florida State, Penn State, and St. Louis University.

Good luck!

Gary,

Do you plan on giving your winter forecast at 5,6 & 10 or just 5, or 6, or 10, etc.? I will be getting back in town in time to catch the 10pm news and wanted to make sure I could catch it!

Thanks
Tim in GW
------------------------------
Tim,

We will be unveiling our winter forecast during the 10 PM news. Friday, we will likely show a recap of it on all of the shows, depending on time.

Gary, kudos if you can get a GRC out of this mess..still looks kinda chaotic to me. I do believe this next storm will hit on the 11th. Right on time per the SMCv.2. The following one should hit on Nov 16-17. 5-6 days later.

Scott,

Can you see that a unique pattern has set up?

Gary,
I am so glad that the KCI thermometer is now fixed. The sensor must have been having a major problem!
It seems like a switch has been flipped in the Pacific. The GFS continues to show storm after storm moving into the Gulf of Alaska and the West Coast of Canada. During October, the East Pacific Ridge was more dominant. To hope for a Ridge in the Pacific this time of year is asking for too much, given the climatological odds.

Devin,

This is the whole point of the GRC. A new pattern has set up. But, what is it. With Jeff's and my experience we are going to find the answers and before Thursday night.

Gary,
My husband and I really miss the "New Data" sound effect that you used to have on your weather casts. What happened to it? Will it ever come back?
Yours faithfuly,
Eunice and Lester Richards
---------------------
Eunice and Lester,

I loved using that special affect. We still have the computer that does it. Maybe I will pull that one out when the new data becomes important soon. We will have to check and see if it still works. For those of you who weren't watching a few years ago, one of our computers had all of these sound affects that we put in and we used during our weathercasts. Our new boss didn't like them and they went away.

Since it was mentioned before and now you and other bloggers are mentioning it, I have to ask.....Does the 15th or 16th storm that is showing up on models show potential for snow at this time? I know it will change 20 times between now and then, but one can hope!

Leonard
--------------------
Leonard,

There has been NO consistancy in the long range data. None at all. So, until I have confidence that there really is a chance of snow I am not going to mention it. There is just nothing really showing up yet. I still anticipate our first chance coming sometime this month though.

I know it's awfully far out at this point, but does anyone - Gary? Scott? Dog? - have a thought about the weather on the 17th? Scott you mentioned a storm on the 11th, repeat the following weekend? Getting married that evening! Any glimpse would be nice... and I won't hold you to it completely!! Thanks! - mt

Mike,

The latest data has it dry and nice on the 17th. But, it is changing every day. So, let's see what we think by around Friday. My dad is coming in for a rare visit that weekend so I am hoping for some nice weather too.
