« Friday thoughts | Main | What is this weather pattern we are in? »

 November 20, 2006

It's a warm up and the Chiefs win!

Good morning,

It is a big travel week and without a storm in our forecast, and across most of the United States for that matter, it will ease the minds of people going in and out of Kansas City through the end of the week.

I was at the Chiefs game sitting in the seats my dad had bought for his visit to Kansas City. Well, his plane going form Palm Springs to Phoenix had to turn around due to some unknown problem. He said they were just 20 minutes from the Phoenix airport when they turned around and went back to Palm Springs. It was late Friday evening so they couldn't get another flight and I was robbed of a visit with my father this weekend. He didn't even come at all. It was rather frustrating since I was really looking forward to it. At least the Chiefs won to ease my disappointment a bit, and the seats were awesome. Now can the Chiefs beat the Broncos Thursday night. The weather looks great!

The weather pattern is strange and still showing what it can or can't do. I will go into much more detail as we go through the week. It is very dry and getting drier, but I still am holding onto that this is just the dry part of an overall bigger picture.

If the most recent GFS is right, I give up. The models are crazy. I will stick to the trend I see and see what happens. If it has shifted again, I will get out of this business! LOL

Scott,

This is why I always call November the "panic period". We just don't know for sure what the entire pattern is. But, we will know soon, but soon a couple of years ago came in January. So, be prepared for more frustration.

Gary, sorry to hear you could not visit with your Dad. Hopefully another time will come soon. Several meterologists have put out their winter forecasts but all aren't on line, they have very low totals for around Kansas and the plains. The average seems to be 10-12 inches. On another radio station in far northeast Kansas, a meteorologist who used to be here in Topeka but does out sourcing meteorology says everyday that El Nino pattern. Anyway I just wanted to let you know what others are saying even thouhg you may keep up yourself. I am still holding true to your outlook. Do you see some Artic air in any long range maps? I know it is there because of some of the temperature maps I have seen from the north. Thanks, Michael/Topeka

Michael,

These long range forecasts are quite tough to figure out. I have my theory and we just have to see how it really cycles through.

Gary I know what a huge disappointment that was. When I lived there we always used the Ontario airport. My kids still fly back to visit their dad in Palm Springs and I always send them to Phx and let him drive in to get them or have my folks pick them up.

Jeri,

My dad said they may take a road trip our way next year.

gary,

I was just wondering if there was ever a year when we saw no snow (or not more than an inch) here in KC. What is the lowest Snowfall total we have ever had? Any new thoughts on the pattern?

Andy
---------------------
Andy,

Keep this in your thoughts. The lowest snow year ever in Kansas history is 4 1/2 inches. So, it will snow.

YAWN... Nothing yet, I sure hope 25inches of snow dosent become 25millimeters of snow:), I know I should be patient, but this is taking to long, YAWN again
BTW Sorry to hear about not getting to see your dad, maybe you guys can try again soon!
Thanks for your time.

Nick,

We are losing our patience.

Gary, Sorry to hear about your family not making it to KC. This dry weather is getting ridiculous. Time to do some rain dancing or something. Just heard you talking about Heroes. Love that show and excited to find out what Save the Cheerleader Save the World means. Enjoy the show.
-------------------
Ann,

I am TVOing Heroes tonight and then watching it when I get home at 11 PM. Don't give anything away.

Gary,

An off the wall question -- my wife and I want to know what the Turkey on your 7-day graphic is eating? Is it a turkey sandwich? If so, isn't that.... wrong? Maybe you can clairfy tonight at 10.

Thanks,
Tim in GW
--------------------
Tim,

We think he is taking a slab out of his side and then eating it. Or, perhaps they are ham, not turkey, sandwiches.

I really hope we have a lot of snow. It just seems like we have not had any major snow storms in a while. I am only 20, but I have not been able to put a blizzard on my resume of weather experiances.
---------------------
Joshua,

Blizzards are extremely rare for Kansas City. Hopefully this will be the season for one. Nothing is showing up yet.

Hi

I want a blizzard, but I just don't see it coming :(
-------------------
Josh,

We didn't see it coming last year and suddenly we had a 10 inch snowstorm on December 7th. I don't see it yet either, this bland weather situation should end soon.

Gary,
When will Bret or others be blogging here? We know what you think but it would be good to read other thoughts as well once in a while.

Leonard
------------------------
Leonard,

I will work on getting Brett, Jeremy, and Jeff more involved in the blog this week.
