To snow or not to snow?
Good late afternoon,
The 18z data comes out with a very important solution to the Wednesday storm. And, rain is developing and heading our way this evening. Are we actually about to have an exciting week?

Click to enlarge (18z 500 mb valid 6 AM Wednesday)
The above map shows the latest data with the development of an upper low in the perfect position for us to see some snow. Let's see if this trend continues. When a storm starts digging it will almost always dig harder west than the models predict. There are a lot of uncertainties and at this moment the trend is good.
Have a great Sunday night. Jeremy will be tracking this situation right after tonight Sunday night football on NBC Action News.

Gary...I sent a comment to your last blog a few minutes ago, but I'll resend it to this one. If you look at the run on the GFS it appears to show a fairly significat snow event in and around the KC area. Am I correct in my analysis, or will it be too warm? It certainly looks impressive to me when you look at the 66 and 72 hour 1000mb chart. What do you think?
-----------------------------
Matt,
I did get your other message, but I will post this one since they are practically the same.
Don't worry about it being to warm or cold at this moment. Let's just see if this trend continues. If we are going to really have a good chance of snow then the trend will continue and by tomorrow it should look pretty impressive. But, if it is going to miss us then the trend should stop and go in the other direction.

Gary, what happened to Jamie? It seems she just disappeared and we had someone new. Where did she go?
Thanks for a reply.

Sallie,
You can go back a few blog entries to see more about Jamie. She decided to move home to be near her family, Dayton Ohio. We miss her so much!

Could you tell me possibily what are some trends you are looking for at this particular model data. Are there any particular parts you look at with this map?
-----------------------------------
John,
On the 500 mb chart you can look at the trend of where the upper level low circulation is developing. The trend has been for it to be stronger, but further south.
Let's see what the new data shows after 8 AM this morning.

We will get the snow. Believe in the SMCv.2 [Makes me laugh as I type it] I thought it might dig, and trusted my trend regardless of the last few frames. This will be a fun winter. I care less about the arctic fronts than I do about the spitting vorts from the pacific..these are more fun and potent.
----------------------------------
Scott,
We must care about the Arctic fronts too. Because if we can combine one of these systems with Arctic air then we really would have some fun.
This storm is trending towards not being cold enough. We will need it to at least be 34 to 35 degrees at the surface when the comma head forms. It may do it. But this could be close.
I thought you gave up on the SMC?

I think it?s going to snow!! Another television station is Already saying likely. Of course i don't what they're rated, I;m thinking their 3rd.
------------------------------------
Andrew,
It is way too early, even this morning to say snow is likely. There are many concerns with this storm. I do think we can say rain is likely this early.

Nice band of rain! was not expecting that to come through as strong as it did, at least I think it's enough to break the dry streak:)
As for the other storm? I will wait till tomorrow to really think about it( I take one victory at a time!)
Nick, feeling a little better in St. Joe!
------------------------
Nick,
I agree with you. Deep down I am excited about Wednesday's storm and if it produces some nice rain I am fine. The snow part will be a close call. It may not be cold enough.
