Good very early morning everyone. The vort max, or upper level disturbance, is producing bands of heavy snow that will clip the area. If you get in these bands then you will get additional accumulation from this storm system during the next few hours. I have 4 inches in Overland Park. I am expecting one more inch on the south side to two more inches on the north side.

What a day! I enjoyed the day, it is too bad I was at work during most of the event, but it is snowing now, so Breezy, Stormy and I are heading back out for another walk.

Brett will blog in the morning. Send in your final totals on Sunday!

Here in Grain Valley, we have 4 1/4-4 1/2 inches of snow, measured in areas away from vehicles, buildings, or other objects that could cause invalid measurements.

It is still coming down in large flakes at a very good rate ... I'm excited!

Gary and the Action Weather Team:

Good Morning to all of you fine people!!!

What a gorgeous morning outside-rabbits are scurrying about, snow is stuck to the trees-just awesome outside. We have some flurries/sleet/plain drizzle currently with a temp. just above freezing. Our winds have just shifted to the West so I would guess we will not warm up very much today if at all. We wound up with close to 4 inches and it is a great packing snow-plan on building a mega fort today and tracking how long it can stay before it melts!!! I have to say that my thoughts go out to the Ozarks and Southern Missouri-man-more freezing rain-they have had a very very tough winter in that area-good luck to all of them!!!

I made a silent pack with Mother Nature that if we got enough snow to sled/build a fort I would not check a long range model or look at a satelite image until at least Tuesday so have no idea what the future holds-however, since it is still January and with the LRC in mind, I feel pretty good that we will get to do this again (porb. more than once) before April!! But for now, time to get out and enjoy it!!!

Once again, and I have to say it, thanks so much for all the responses, updates, discussions et al during this event-Gary, you and the weather team exude excellence and this Blog is proof positive of that!! Enjoy the snow with Breezy and Stormy and have a great fantastic day!!!!!

Bill, waxing the sleds as we speak, in Lawrence!!!

PS: Sorry again for that horrible attempt at humor last night-the more I read that and more I thought about it, the worse it sounded!!! Sorry!!!

Gary and Brett:

Just took some better measurements-we have 3 inches in SW Lawrence. I am thinking we had more snow than that but we lost the first two hours as it really didn't stick too well. Sitting at 33 currently with drips off the house!!! Can't say it enough-beautifull outside this morning!!! Well, time to get ready to build a fort-kids are chomping at the bit!!! LOL Have a fantastic day-you all are just awesome-once again, fantastic job!!!

Gary, Brett and Weather Crew,
N. Lawrence, out by I-70, has 3" of the white stuff. The "reading" was taken on flat surfaces away from buildings with my trusty and most acurate grade school ruler. It's usually correct to within 1/16" of an inch. (smile)

I work audit shift at a hotel and watched it barely snow all night.
Great work! You said between 3" and 6".

Good morning weather team!

Here in NW Ray County, we measured 4-1/2 inches, and we have another band suppling us with beautiful large flakes right now.
The Boy Scouts had their annual Klondike Derby at Smithville Lake yesterday and today. They camped overnight. I can't wait to here their stories when they arrive home this afternoon!

Jody,
Thanks for the update and the little nugget on the Klondike Derby.
