Morning Update Update
Good morning,
The morning data is rolling in and look below to see what the NAM does.

That's about a tenth to .15 of an inch through this evening. If the ratio works out to be 15 or 20 to one then we are looking at 1.5 to 2 inches or snow. Radar trends look good as Gary pointed out earlier and they continue to look good. Snow should be here by 10am and I could see it lightly snowing for 6 to 8 hours. When you start seeing snow, blog me, we'll track it on KC Live at 10:00am.
Have a great morning,
Brett

I kept hearing all over the radio this morning from "other stations" that there should be no snow accumulations. They're going to feel stupid if we get the 1.5 - 2 inches you see as possible. To me it's just another example of how your forecasting is miles ahead of the rest!
*******
Marlina,
I hope that's the way it plays out. I feel pretty confident about our snow forecast, especially when you look at the radar.

Who was predicting no snow? I checked the websites of all the other TV stations in Kansas City and they are all predicting some snow accumulations, about 1-2 inches.
-----------------
Rob,
It is probably someone on the radio. I know we are going 1 inch or a bit more on Newsradio 980 KMBZ, but another meteorologist on a different radio station, or accuweather or something like that may be overanalyzing and not going for something.

Gary and Brett,
The latest radar trends tend to show most of the snow going south with a small area going north. Will the radar echoes fill in as the day wears on?
-----------------
Brian,
The trend is for a continued increase in the snow during the next few hours. So, it is looking good for snow lovers.

I know a snow day is probably a bad day for a general question, but I have a question concerning frost. When I went out to my car yesterday, there was no frost on my car, but this morning, with similar temperatures, I had some heavy frost. Sometimes, my thermometer says the outside temp is 33 or 34 and I still have frost on my car. I know moisture levels have something to do with this, but what factors have to come together to have a layer of frost on the grass/cars?
------------------
Chris,
It must be 32 degrees or lower for frost to form. If it is 33, 34, or even 37 degrees outside as the official temperature it could still be 30 to 32 degrees in the air near your windshield, and on the grass.

Gary,
I think I found two identical snowflakes. I was always taught that this was theoretically impossible, considering the different possiblities and permutations of crystalline formation. Do you believe that this is a possiblity? I examined them both under microscopy and have concluded that they are indeed identical. I could see how this could happen in a major winter storm such as the previous one earlier in the month or the one last month, considering there are probably millions of snowflakes in these storms, but man, can that happen in this small storm?!?!?! Thanks for great forecasts and keep up the good work! When is the next bloggers meeting? Are you still looking for storm chasers?
-------------------------
Franky Joe,
Yes, we are still interested in getting more storm chasers. Please contact me, if you are one, early in March.
I have seen many snowflakes that seem identical, but I am sure there are minute differences.
