Area of wintery precipitation is moving our way

Good afternoon,

An area of snow/sleet/freezing rain is moving our way. The snow cover is actually affecting this afternoon's weather, at least I think it is. This is holding in the colder temperatures a bit longer. We will have to NOWCAST this situation for you during the 5 and 6 PM newscasts as it arrives during rush hour. It could be anywhere from a dusting to 2 inches if it really comes down hard. Plus it is very windy which could cause some blowing and drifting.

Please let us know what you experience. I will use some of the comments on the air.

We are getting some snow flurries at Barry and North Oak currently. The snow is coming down at a good speed, but the flakes are very small.

Very light snow starting in Overland Park at 3:15 with 28 degrees

I noticed they put us under a snow advisory for tonight. They expect another round after midnight up to an inch. Sounds like the wind will be the biggest problem with this small storm. Drive safe tonight!!

Hi Gary,

We have a lot of small snow flakes zipping through the air with occasional blowing snow here in Overland Park.

Independence, MO (around 291 and I-70): The snowflakes are small, but the wind gusts are strong and biting. It feels much colder than 21 degrees Fahrenheit.

Gary,

Still trying to chip away the ice on the driveway and now it's starting to snow again.
Hopefully we get a couple of inches. It's sticking since it's cold enough.

Snowing moderate-to-heavy in Lawrence now. About a quarter inch in the past half hour and it's blowing all around.

Lots of lt to moderate snow in St. Joe since about 2:30. The main problem is the blowing snow. It's already covering side streets and roads out of the city limits.

Posted by: Christi at February 16, 2007 3:38 PM

It's coming down pretty good here in Gardner, KS. It's pretty windy too.

Posted by: Jamie at February 16, 2007 3:40 PM

The snow is coming down hard in Polo, Missouri. (3:40 p.m) The flakes are small and dry, but already there is a dusting on the roads.

Hi Gary
when will the atmosphere be saturated enough for the precipitation to start reaching the ground?

Posted by: Brent at February 16, 2007 3:41 PM

Light snow is starting in Lee's Summit. VERY strong winds which makes it very very cold! Drive safe and stay warm!

Posted by: craig at February 16, 2007 3:51 PM

Just south of Platte City, it has been snowing here for the past hour or so. Now t is really snowing at just about 4 pm. With the wind the visibility has got to be low. It is just very cold out there. . almost to the point of it being just wrong cold!

I'm in Excelsior Springs and it has been flurrying since about 1:oo to 2:00 pm. Now it is 4:00 and the snow has picked up. The ground has a good dusting on it.

Snowing like crazy at College and Strang line Road...OK, Gary. I've enjoyed this winter immensely; it reminds me of the winters I enjoyed as a kid. But enough's enough. Time for some 40s and 50s...

Snow is coming down in moderate amounts at the Sprint campus. It looks very pretty, but I'm hoping the commute isn't too terrible because of it.

Yuck, Western JO Co. MO-snow started at 4 pm, blowing sideways. Hoping for a couple of inches!!
