Thundersnow!!!!!

Bulletin: Thundersnow is being reported with huge snowflakes on the south side. A band of heavy snow will continue. Enjoy this unique phenomena. It is dangerous out there as my car, a Jeep Grand Cherokee was sliding on the way home. Be careful. I am on my way out with Breezy and Stormy to check out the huge snowflakes.

We heard the thunder out here in the Raytown area, but it sounded so weird and muffled. I don't think I've ever heard snow thunder before!!

Thanks for all you do Gary!

Weather Team,

In the Gladstone area I continue to see blowing from the north followed by blowing from the south and then direct downfall. The snow is smaller flakes but is quite heavy.

You guys are the lucky one's this go around!!! Still all rain here in Clinton. Profiles seem to hint that we will be lucky to see an inch or two. It was time for us to "share the wealth" to our northern friends. Take care and keep up the awesome work!!

Gary and All...

I was just stepping outside to go and get the equiptment ready to plow the lot at work and saw a big flash of lightning and then the thunder! It was around 11:15 - 11:20pm. I have only seen this a few times but it was very exciting! I stepped out just at the right moment... I live on 92 Terr just west of Holmes Road ....1 1/2" to 2" and still coming down...

Keep up the good work Gary! My year old Sheltie, ZOE and I love the snow.

Interesting. I thought I heard thunder earlier up here in Shoal Creek. I didn't look outside at the time, but it sounded like two pretty good claps of thunder. Is thunder snow at this time of year unusual? The last time I saw a pretty good thunder snowstorm was April 7, 1982. It produced 19 inches of snow in southeastern CT where I was and it also forced many baseball teams to go back to spring training for a week.

Good Morning,
I thought that I would let you know it's 1:14 a.m. and the snow is still blowing around here in Blue Springs the traffic on I 70 is moving somewhat slower than usual and the salt trucks are also out on the side roads and interstate70 it's about 30 degrees and just as all of you predicted, you keep up the good work; I don't know how many inches of snow has fallen in the Blue Springs area, I won't know that until tomorrow when I go home from work, be safe and careful.

Measured 3.0 inches at 2 a.m. in Blue Springs 1 mile west of Grain Valley and still snowing. It looks like it could snow another 3 -4 hours here. And since we picked up about 1 inch in 90 minutes I would guess we would end up with around 5.5 inches here. I would enjoy some of that thunder snow action though.

I just took a yardstick out into my front yard here in the Northeast area, (A few blocks from Independence Ave and Van Brunt.) and got 5 inches average from 10 readings over the least drifted parts....It's still coming down, at the rate of nearly an 8th of an inch an hour.

Bill,

If the sky clears then it will likely be below zero Thursday morning. But, there may be a band of clouds with some snow Wednesday night.

What an interesting storm yesterday.

Good morning Gary and the weather team, golly I was a little disappointed in the storm because at 10:00 p.m. it was snowing gang busters, the radar looked healthy nad then when I got up this morning I was expecting at 4-5 but it barely covered the ground here in Berryton just southeast of Topeka. I bet we only have 2 inches if that. In some places it only looks like an inch. What happened between 10-midnight? Did it lift farther to the north? Did it accelerate or just go poof? I am hearing from some sources this could be the final winter event though we have the LRC coming around the 25-28th. Interesting winter. But our dogs loved the snow this morning. Take care, Michael/Berryton

Mike,

A nice band of snow formed right over you, but then reformed to your south and lined up over the south part of Kansas City. Well, at least you did get some snow.

Remember we average 3 inches of snow in March. With this pattern, and you know my theory, it just has to snow again. Maybe Wednesday night.
