Evening Showers? A Warm Sunday
I hope everyone has enjoyed the May-like weather we experienced today. Outside of a weakening area of showers that pushed through the viewing area between midnight and 8am, it has been a dry day. That may change for a few people as an area of isolated showers is moving north-northeast around Emporia and Topeka. If the showers hold together they will arrive in the metro area around 6pm. These would stick around for maybe 20-30 minutes, so you can still sneak in an evening bbq. Rain totals over the past 4 days have varied greatly across the region. I've heard of totals near 2" and others of around a tenth of an inch or less. If you have a total for this week and would like to pass it along I'll try to use some totals on-air tonight at 10pm.
After the isolated showers and cloud cover exit the region, the focus will shift to an unseasonably warm Sunday. Highs in most areas will be near or above 80 degrees. With the warm front well to our north on Sunday(over Minnesota & Wisconsin), it should be a dry, windy, and warm day. The record high on Sunday in KC is 90 degrees set in 1907, so there's no threat of breaking a record. Although it will feel summer-like!
The next chance of showers and storms will arrive Monday afternoon and evening. Hopefully everyone picks up some decent rain then. If you are watching hoops today and miss the 5pm news, tune in at 10pm for the latest model data and updated forecast! Enjoy your weekend!

I had 1 inch of rain this week at 151st and Mur-Len in Olathe. Also, how much rain do you expect Monday and Tuesday?
Thanks, Eswar.
********
Eswar,
Thanks for the rain total. Monday into Tuesday is looking a little wetter. Some areas could see 0.50"...but this time of year rain is usually hit and miss.

********
Nikie,
I'm not sure exactly what day...but it should be early this week that it is posted online. Our webmaster is back and will address a lot of the bloggers concerns during the next week. When the special is posted we will let everyone know where to look.

Jeremy,
Thanks for the blog entry. Things must be slow to be looking for rain totals. No graphics, blah. Oh well, everyone is entitled to an average entry.
Even me.
;-)
********
Scott,
I haven't mastered the art of posting maps & images yet...it is easier said than done to a non-'techy' person like myself. I have a normal schedule this week so I should have some time to work on things that have been getting put off over the last 4 weeks.

The Extreme weather video is already posted on the website. Go to the homepage, click on the "video" tab at top of the page. Once on the video page, scroll down till you see the "extreme videos" there are a total of 4 parts to the video.I watched it Friday morning and it was great.
Hope this helps.

I am a track coach and curious on what you think April looks like. Is it going to be cool and wet? I know the LRC would indicate a pretty good cool down by Mid April.

Brian,
I would try to watch our severe weather special online and specifically focus on Gary's spring outlook. April does look wetter and cooler(more days at or even below average) compared to March.
I hope this helps.

Jeremy,
I looked at the GFS models today and am liking the cooler trend that I see in the longer range data. Do you think we will see temperatures much colder than what we have seen in early April with the pattern cycling. Also, I think Gary mentioned that we have the potential for a later freeze this year with the pattern cycling.

Devin,
The longer range models are looking cooler and also wet at times. The cooler part of the pattern may not settle in until somewhere around April 10. That would be when the 'big storm' part of the cycle would repeat. Before that we should see a break in the 70s for highs. As we get later in 2007 the bigger storms may have a little different look or be slightly farther north. But after only seeing the LRC for 5 months I would be willing to bet on a storm very close to the area around April 10.

Well I wonder if we will hit 80 today, I don't think it can do it unless we get some more sun. Do you think that the rain monday night will be widespread?
********
Brent,
The clouds may keep some spots below 80 degrees. But as of 2pm it is already 81 in St. Joe and 77 at both KC reporting stations. Keep in mind with the time change our peak heating is now 1 hour later(sunrise is around 7:30am now versus 6:30am a few weeks ago).

Well it felt like late May or Early June out there today!! The wind was really blasting in from the south too.
The vort for mid week seems to be trending to try and keep some of it further south than a few days ago, even trying to develop a new ULL to some degree near here, but after that the flow looks to get zonal again, we have had some rain but we also have had warm weather and wind with it so I hope it gets wetter later, and it is still only March after all.
Nick in (summery) St. Joe!!!!
*********
Nick,
82 in St. Joe today! The average high in KC doesn't reach 82 until June 2! The late spring weather will hang on thru Wednesday before a cold front brings us closer to reality by the end of the week.
We'll have to watch a southern wave developing as the main low is well to the north along with the ULL by Wednesday Night - Thursday.

Jeremy,
I forgot, what station did you come from before you moved to KC? And I feel strange asking this, but can you tell me the web address. I was just courious about how it looked.
********
Alden,
I worked at the ABC/FOX station in Madison, WI for the past 5 years before starting in KC last November. I hope this helps your search.
