Crazy April Storm

This is truly a unique event. North of I-70 will hardly see any snow, while Olathe to Lee's Summit southward will see 2"+ and sticking to the roads & sidewalks. This is so similar to the November 30th storm it is ridiculous. Please send along your snow totals for us to pass along the everyone! Enjoy this snow...it's been a while since we've seen accumulation during April!

Gary has to be mad he is not here to see this.

We have had a mixture of heavy snow and rain since 8 in Blue Springs. No sticking on the ground here. I love seeing the big flakes of snow.

Finally sticking here at 115th and Holmes KCMO with a very moderate snow falling. streets and sidewalks are clear temp estimation around 33.

I stand corrected, it is now snowing very heavily in Blue Springs and it is sticking on the grass, deck, cars.....

Amazing April storm. I would love to know how much snow would have been on the ground if this was in Feb.

**********

Brian,

Thanks for the update! Enjoy the snow!

It looks like on Satelite, we might get dry slotted? or is the system weakening?

*********

Andrew,

Most of the convective snow will push east of the area by 1-2am, and just a general light snow will fall after that. Some drier air is working north, but should push east as well and then the wrap around moisture should work in.

St. Joe had a drizzle storm, this was a cruel last trick winter did by teasing St. Joe one last time in April, to just miss it to the south and we get drizzle. NO MORE WINTER ITS TEASING ME, I want rumblers again!!!!

WOW WOW WOW. It started snowing last night arounf 9 p.m. in Grandview. I don't think it stopped overnight. I have 2.5 inches of snow / slush in the back of my truck. 1.5 inches of compacted snow on the mailbox. As of 0520 (when I left for work) it was still snowing hard. Streets are wet here with a little slush on the sides.

The April Storm. The LRC has done it again.

Great job weather team.. Keep it up!!!!

It was slushing in Blue Springs last night around 8. I was thrilled to wake up to no snow this morning here in Sibley. Maybe I missed it, maybe I won't see any at all? I am interested to see how much rain we got. There are small pools of water everywhere. Going to Lexington this morning and am hoping I don't have any rough stuff to drive in.

Off topic about snow and a question about a week away, but how does next Saturday look like? Any idea on the high? Rain, bad weather? Hot, cold? I know i'm asking a lot but I have something planned for next saturday and one of the people cant come unless their soccer game is canclled due to weather. So how does it look?

*********

Alden,

I'm going to make sure next Saturday is nice, I'm going to the Royals/Twins game:)

Good Morning Weather Team!!!

Sitting at about 36 currently and the sun is beginning to burn the clouds off-if we can get full sun by say noon, it will turn out to be a pretty nice day-especially compared to the last week!!! Had some mix last night and there are a few skiffs of wet snow on the roof flashings but that is it-still, got some great rain and got to see flakes-awesome stuff!!!!

Have to say that some of my blogs yesterday were way off the mark-after looking at the track of the low, I realized this was not a classic 4 corners low-it was much further south (just as the LRC said it would be!!!!) and came out through southern Arizona-I got caught up in the model outputs and not real time observations-some day, I will learn LOL!!! The LRC was all over this and the storm took the same path as all the other major storms in this cycle-great stuff indeed!!!

Still expecting one last freeze later in the month and then looking forward to see if we make a run to the 100's in early June before this colder phase works back through-this could be quite the thunder producer in late June for sure!!!!

I hope you all get some rest and thanks for the awesome updates on the Blog last night as always!!! Have a great day!!

Bill in Lawrence

**********

Bill,

Thanks for the update. It is too bad people from Lawrence to KCI and points north missed the snow. I'd say maybe next time, but that won't be until next season.

The Next big storm should be around May 22? Right? 40-45 days ?

***********

Andrew,

Probably the last week of May. So after the 22nd. Keep in mind there will be other 'storms' between now and then. So we should have some more excitement in the weather department.

In Lenexa by the time I got up at at 0630 only part of my lawn had a dusting. There really was nothing to speak of at 87th and Lackman.

**********

Jeri,

Thanks for the report. Just like November 30 the rain/snow line was a very sharp cut-off. Also, remember on February 28 when the heavy rain was only over southern areas of the metro and the severe weather lined up almost exactly to where the heavy band of snow was last night.

CRAZY!

about a quarter to half inch of snow was on the ground when I awoke at 7:30 this morning and most of it was already gone anyway.

**********

Jonathan,

Thanks for the report! The great thing about April snow is now you see it...now you don't!

Well not quite the 3 to 6" of SNOW the weather channel for calling for but us up north did get some rain with our 37 degrees.Let's just say the 4 year old was a bit mad this morning at the weather guys for saying it was suppose to snow.

********

Don,

KCI reported a mix of rain and snow overnight, so maybe you saw a few snowflakes very late. We mentioned yesterday that north of downtown would see little to no snow. There's always next snow season.

It may be too early to say but what would the last weekend in April look like? My daughter will be turning three that weekend and we've been hoping for a backyard party but with this strange snow in April, we're starting to get worried! And that is also the same weekend of the Trolley Run in KC, to benefit children with visual impairments. I'll be participating for my nephew who has nystagmus-and hoping for good weather for the walk/run! Thanks.

*********

Erin,

Still a little too early to tell. But I would say temps in the 40s for highs and snow are pretty much done for the season! The average high by then is 70...so hopefully you'll see something around that for a high.

I had 1.35 inches of precip from this storm at 151st and Mur-Len in Olathe. About .6 of that was snow, but I only saw 2 inches of snow this morning. Thanks, Eswar

**********

Eswar,

The snow was very wet and heavy. That's why only 2" accumulated. Still a lot for this late in the season. Thanks for the report.

Hello Jeremy,
I just now read my question from around 8ish this morning. I think it was misunderstood. This is one time when I want the weather to be BAD. The whole group was really looking forward to next saturday because that would be the only day that could work. So how about highs in the 50's with a rainstorm and flooding? I cant believe I just said that. But, do you really have any idea on what we can except? I would really like to know in advance.

***********

Alden,

Saturday looks like 70s and probably dry as of now. Sorry.

Wow I can't believe the totals are so small. I am sorry I did not post this morning. I was going to tell you that I woke up at six am. and went to take a measurement before it melted or compacted and I got 5.5 inches everywhere. I saw 3 inches on the newscast and I wanted to let you know that right near Harrisonvile we got about 5.5 inches. Thanks!

**********

Brent,

Thanks for the report. I'll likely show the totals at 10pm again or when I update WxPlus, so I'll change the Harrisonville total to 3-5.5". Looks like you had about the top total across the area.

Thanks!
I think we probably did get the most but it is almost all melted now. We had thundersnow all ngiht it seems. I think it kept redeveloping over us. I watched the radar and it seemed that the area of heavy snow just did not really move all night. It started snowing at around 7:30 I think and almost one half an hour later it was sticking to the ground and it was turning white. It started sticking to the driveway and the yard, hours before people in KC started getting it. I guess it was just snowing so hard for so long.

*********

Brent,

Thanks again for all the reports!
