"Kansas Snowstorm"

Good afternoon,

Read the previous entry for the thoughts after today. But, amazingly right now Salina, KS is in a significant snowstorm. There is heavy snow and 25 to 28 degree air in place. It is likely sticking to everything. It may inch into the Emporia area. So, two weeks ago Columbia, MO had 2 inches of snow and today Salina. For us snow lovers this is frustrating. Below, you can see the radar image of all of the snow JUST west of us. When it makes it out into central Kansas then it is the type of system that could have easily have affected us. We really are JUST missing this snowstorm.

Any more chances when the second cold wave hits? next blog should be how read the GFS,NAM,ETA,MM5,WAF models and a explanation of all of them.
---------------------
Andrew,

That lesson will be a 12 week course. It isn't that easy. I explain from time to time some of the important details, but there are so many things that go into each model.

And, yes there will be some opportunity with the last cold wave, but it is getting later and later.

Oh that radar looks so exiting!! I wish it was just a little bit further east. well I guess we just don't get snow in April. Is there any chance that we could get a quick snow flurry here on the west?
-------------------
Brent,

It is so close. One slight shift east and then....surprise. But it isn't shifting.

hey gary,
what book was Jennifer talkin about in the last blog? i might be interested...
----------------------
Randy,

Go to: http://www.icstars.com/ourspaciousskies/oss.html

This is the book I co-wrote. They have it for sale for $35, but I have a couple of boxes of them and will sell it for $15. And, I will sign it for 20, just kidding. It is really a great coffee table book.

If you would like one you can come by the station, or I can send it to you, but it would cost some shipping and handling.

Let me know what you think.

Ok..done now. Proceed on with regular blogging.

Scott,

This mornings GFS had a realistic solution, and the 18z had "the storm". We will see.

Gary,

I am in Salina, its not sticking on the streets but it is sticking on most everything else. We have about 5" now especially on grass surfaces. Its quite amazing to see this much snow after mowing the lawn and every tree advanced this far with leaves. Its an impressive situation and site, but may be devastating for agricultural and gardening reasons too

Jon
--------------------
Jon,

Thank you for the report. 5" of snow! WOW! Enjoy it for all of us. If you can take a picture and email it to my email address that would be nice, but don't worry about it if you can't.

Gary, I'm sorry, but this is where we part ways. When it comes around April, I'm done with snow, so I'm glad it's west of here.. :) I know, just a fair-weather-snow-lover...
---------------
Dave,

I just got back from dinner. It is cold out there and if it is going to be cold then let it snow.

gary,
ok, it caught my interest! i'm actually coming down to kansas city on sunday with my fiance(who flies in tomorrow from california), and i have only been downtown once since moving here, can i get some help on how to get to the station? and when it would be a good time to pick it up from you(and possibly meet, that would be exciting! lol)? anyways, any directions you can give me would be appreciated.
--------------------
Randy,

You could pick up one of my books for $15 on Monday or Tuesday after 2 PM. Just let me know. I will sign it for you.

We are on the east side of the Plaza. 47th street is the main street through the Plaza, go past Main street to Oak and turn right. The Nelson Art Gallery is to the left and we are across from the park. 4720 Oak Street. Are any of these days good for you?
