Snow Update

If you have snow pictures from tonight please send them to: jnelson@nbcactionnews.com

Rain has changed to snow in many locations SOUTH of downtown KC. Anywhere from Overland Park to Lee's Summit south to Linn & Bates counties. Thundersnow is being reported in many locations where the rain has changed to snow. With this in mind, areas along the I-35 corridor from Ottawa to Olathe, and then east thru Overland Park to Lee's Summit will see the heaviest of the snow and the greatest accumulation. This will extend south to around Clinton and Butler, MO and west to around Mound City. Between these locations is where the narrow band of heavier snow will likely set up. Totals could be in the 3-5" category in a few spots where the thundersnow is occurring. But overall, many locations will still see 1-3" as we've been saying. As the previous blog mentioned the cut-off will be very sharp and areas north of KC(maybe even KCI) could see little or no snow accumulation. It is still dry in St. Joseph with temps in the 40s!

If you have snow totals or reports please continue to post them to the blog! We'll try to get all the comments posted.

Whatever snow does fall will melt quickly with temps in the mid 40s on Saturday and some sunshine by afternoon. Temps rebound to near 60 by Sunday!

If this storm path had occurred during the february cold snap, I think we would be looking at snow totals of 12-16 inches!!!!!

Behold the power of the LRC.

I've been telling my husband for over a month that a storm was coming this weekend!

119th and Ridgeview at 8:30 all snow 35 degrees, not sticking. Anybody out there in Olathe east of I-35 and a little further south, what do you got? I have a feeling we're going to see some wild differences in short distances!

On the way home from Overland Park to Raymore large flakes mixed with rain at first over to all snow near and in Raymore. Flakes are huge and coming down heavy. The snow is already beginning to cover the grass and the side streets. Stay in tonight if you don't have to get out.

light rain and a disappointing 38 degrees here in leavenworth. not a single flake. what is limiting the real moisture from coming up to us? we arent that far away from the action...we are going to miss everything, arent we?

********

Murphy,

Very likely no snow accumulation in Leavenworth. Sounds like November 28!

Do you expect snow for towns up north like Smithivlle? I would be very excited to see snow on the ground this morning.

We now have KCI as the cutoff for snow. North of there, maybe next season:(

Major? Huh! It's more likely sprinkling here near at the Legeneds. I would hardly call this thing major for us! Again, we up north and east miss out on all of the good stuff.

************

Alden,

Major storm...yes. Severe weather on the south end, in the lower Mississippi Valley and snow in the Plains and Midwest. For April this is major. Although I know you wanted snow...maybe you'll at least see a dusting or half inch where you live!

Jeremy

Gardner had thunder about an hour and a half ago. Most of the grass is covered but the roads are pure slush. It continues to come down heavily though. Is this expected to continue the rest of the night?

Posted by: Erin at April 13, 2007 9:20 PM

Good late evening!!!

One more quick update: rain with a few flakes mixed in here in SW Lawrence-temp. around 34 degrees-but we sure have had a great soaking rain so can't complain there-and in the end, I saw some flakes-can't complain since it is April 13th!!!!

It really caught my eye when Salina was 40 and lt. rain and Hutchison 60 miles south was 33 with thundersnow earlier today-I kind of told myself that I would be on the edge here-then looking at the precip shield-well, that fatefull Novemember night when Baldwin got 8 inches and me 10 miles North got zilch-the LRC was right on!!!!!

My hope is that next winter we can have a low track like this one-a true classic 4 corners low!!! Have a great night and as always, you all did awesome with this-thanks for all the great blogs and for those south and east of here: enjoy the snow this evening!!! The cherry on top of a very good winter!!! And yes, I will enjoy the 60's on Sunday!!!! Have a great night!!!

Hello Jeremy,
How much snow do you expected here in KCK, Wyndotte County?

********

Around 1-2". Probably closer to the lower total though.

Jeremy

Posted by: Anne at April 13, 2007 9:30 PM

almost 2 inches and still snowing heavily.

Posted by: Brent at April 13, 2007 9:38 PM

*******
Do you know how much rain has fallen in Lee's Summit? How much snow will we see here?

********

Around 2-3"(snow).

Jeremy

Posted by: kristy at April 13, 2007 9:45 PM

As of 9:45 PM there is about 1/2 of an inch of snow on the ground at 151st and Mur-Len in Olathe with moderate snow still falling.

Posted by: Eswar at April 13, 2007 10:08 PM

Report 22:02 10:02 CST: Lees Summit, Moderate snow, ... now, I was outside 22:10 walking Schnitzel and saw lightening again didnt get the thunder though. It is now accumulating on Grassy areas and cars. This is taking on very similar characteristics of the November storm. This time I am in the action. It is April, so it is going to act differently. Much warmer, less accumulation. But it is nice to know that mid month next month... there will be rain. LRC all the way. Finally something to look forward to in the weather department!

I would just copy and paste that vs. typing it out! you really can see on Wunderground where the snow, mix, and rain start and end. I am sad because we wont see much, and that most of the nation is expiercnicg bad weather. IT REALLY IS FRIDAY THE 13TH!!!!

Do you think we should get the plows out in Lee's Summit. I do snow removal for a living and everything is put up going to be a long night. streets are covered here

*********

Rick,

That's your call on the plowing, but there will be snow falling for much of the night. 2-3" total(very outside chance of 4").

The snow will melt quickly by Saturday morning as temps will warm into the 40s.

Enjoy the snow!

I don't think anyone is ready that is in snow removal. probably should sleep this one out and let it melt in the morning. any suggestions

**********

Rick,

Snow will continue tonight, some slush on the roads tonight. Temps won't drop below freezing...so icy spots may not be a concern...just slush. Drive careful south of the metro and in Lee's Summit tonight.
