With only a week left, it’s time to trim the roster
for Manager Tony La Russa. Problem is, this year –
perhaps more than most – is going to be a tough one as
far as making the final decisions.
“It’s complicated,” he said. "The way the spots
work together, the fact that some people can do things
while other players can do others. It’s not easy to
figure, so we’re spending a lot of time with it.”
One decision is easy: with Larry Bigbie opening the
season on the DL, one more spot is open. Still, La
Russa cited that it wouldn’t necessarily be an
outfielder taking the spot.
“Four outfielders will get a lot of time,” he said.
“As far as the extra spot, we’ll look at who’s
pitching well, who’s playing well, etc.”
