Non-roster invitee and relief pitcher Jeff Nelson
fondly remembered his four years of playing against
Kirby Puckett in the American League.
"He was probably the most exciting player you ever
wanted to meet or play against," Nelson said. "Even
though we weren't on the same team, he treated me
almost like I was a teammate."
Nelson is enjoying his first spring in his 14
seasons in the bigs as a national leaguer. He pitched
a perfect inning Tuesday, recording three consecutive
foul ball outs.
There was a moment of silence for Puckett before the
game in honor of the Hall-of-Famer who played his
entire career with the Twins. Some fans also waved
homer hankies in his honor.
