Solid starters

The Cardinals got a solid outing from their pitching staff for the first time since beating Florida Atlantic University in an exhibition on February 28.

Mark Mulder and Adam Wainwright both pitched effectively for the Cardinals, who had disturbed manager Tony La Russa with poor performances thus far in the spring. It's still early, but Wainwright has pitched the best out of the trio vying for the last spot in the rotation.

On another note, La Russa probably had his most off-the-wall press conference this spring. He talked about everything from helicopter rides to Brokeback Mountain.
