Refueled - Miami, Here I Come

Ed for Matt again. Matt "Wizard"reportedly left Key Largo Wednesday in the early afternoon and will stop somewhere in Biscayne Bay to prepare the Enigma for the higher southeasterly winds of the Gulf Stream.

He plans to sail offshore if possible, however judging from today's winds, I would bet he's on the inside working up the ICW. We'll hear from him later today and update the map that is now linked to this blog.

I spoke to the Chief of Watertribe last night. He was in Flamingo still where he had just checked in the fourth of the 10 sailors in the Florida Challenge - a guy named Pelican. Six of the 10 were still a day away from Flamingo. Today, Chief goes to Key Largo to welcome folks and prepare for the awards for the Everglades Challenge Saturday night.

Other Florida Challengers manitou cruiser and shark chow were to leave Key Largo today after recharging their batteries. The three may be in Sebastian by early Friday? or Saturday. Challengers are not required to spend any length of time at a checkpoint, but often will if wearing down. Remember, after being on the water close to 10-14 days, they will then have to drag their vessels 40 miles over land. That will test your mettle.

By the way, Flamingo is on the road to recovery. Campground there is open and they are working feverishly to re-open the store and replace the gas tanks there. Boat ramps are open according to chief.

Stay tuned and good luck to all.
