Will Rep. Tim Mahoney be around for just one term? Maybe, says Stu Rothenberg, a top political analyst and editor of the Rothenberg Political Report.
In his latest report, Rothenberg labeled the 16th district seat a "pure toss up" in 2008, meaning it has the potential to be high risk. Mahoney, you'll recall, narrrowly defeated Joe Negron in November after former Rep. Mark Foley abruptly resigned from Congress. Recently, several Republicans have said they will oppose Mahoney in the '08 race. They include Gayle Harrell, a state representative, Hal Valeche, a Palm Beach Gardens councilman, and Tom Rooney, a Jupiter lawmaker whose family owns the Pittsburgh Steelers.
