The Florida Democratic Party today accused Mel Martinez of missing two key votes on the Iraq war last week. "...Our Republican senator Mel Martinez, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, was apparently too busy to even show up to the procedural votes-twice," Karen Thurman, chair of the Florida Democratic Party said in a podcast earlier today. "This war is the most important issue facing our country and Mel Martinez can't even show up?" Thurman goes on to urge Floridians to call Martinez and "tell him to stop missing votes and more importantly ignoring the people of Florida."
Martinez, as it turns out, was attending the funeral of his foster mother. The senator has repeatedly said he supports President Bush's plan for a troop escalation.
