Apparently former Rep. Mark Foley isn't the only one who uses instant messenger. Today's Politico, the new Capitol Hill paper, wrote a little blurb today on how Rep. Tim Mahoney and staff also use the real-time communicator. Oh the irony!
Here's the story:
Rep. Tim Mahoney, the freshman Democrat who replaced the disgraced Mark Foley in Florida's 16th District, either has a huge sense of humor or absolutely no sense of irony.
Sources tell us that Mahoney has directed his offices -- both in Florida and in D.C. -- to download IM onto staff computers so that the two camps can chat throughout the day.
"That's almost as good as the member of Congress who got in trouble for IMing kids with sexually explicit messages being in charge of the Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus," snipes one Shenanigans source.
Well, that's stretching it.
Mahoney's folks say it meets their need for speed. "Congressman Mahoney's office uses the best technology available to maximize efficiency and effectiveness. The office uses IM as an intercom to the district to respond to constituent requests in real time," explained Mahoney spokeswoman Jessica Santillo.
Just one question: What's Mahoney's screen name?
