Palms and the Hurricanes

Hello Carol,
We lost a 24' tall palm during Francis, what type of palm has better odds during a hurricane?
Cris
Port Saint Lucie

Hello Cris,
This simple answer is - A palm that is healthy and has not had it's green leaves regularly removed in the name of "hurricane pruning."

I have already posted a lot of information on trees, palms, and replanting after the storms on the BLOG. Take a look at the entries "Trees for our area" and "Palm Pruning." These topics may be listed in archives so be sure a look in that section.

In the meantime, remember, the safest trees durning a storm are ones that have been selected with the site in mind, planted well, and are as healthy as possible.

Happy Gardening,
Carol
