PORT ST. LUCIE - 7-Eleven, Inc., plans to convert its Treasure Coast stores into franchise operations.
The Port St. Lucie store at 1690 SE Walton Road will switch to franchise ownership on Friday, with Evelyn Lortie, the manager of two years, taking over the location, the company announced in a press release.
"I should be looking to retire," stated Evelyn Lortie, 58, who moved to Florida from New Hampshire in 2000. "But instead I'm making a new start."
The company is looking for others to take over the remaining locations in Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
This franchise expansion is part of 7-Eleven's strategy to become a fully franchised business in the U.S.
"We are offering the opportunity for people in the community to run their own business using a proven, successful system along with the support of the world’s largest convenience retailer," stated Ivy Nunez, 7-Eleven's Franchise Sales Manager for South Florida, in the release.
Existing 7-Eleven store managers were the first to be offered the franchise application. The average up-front, cost for a 7-Eleven franchise in Florida is about $180,000, which includes the store's opening inventory, supplies, business licenses, permits, bonds, cash register fund and the franchise fee. The amount may vary depending on the location. The Dallas-based still shares in the operation's gross profits.
Nationally, about 3,650 of 7-Eleven, Inc.'s almost 5,400 stores are franchised.
