Several months after resort companies were reportedly looking to acquire Club Med's Sandpiper Bay, a spokeswoman for the international resort said the 216-acre site along the St. Lucie River has two possible futures:
Remain in as the Club Med it has mostly been since the 1980s or be an renovated Club Med facility.
"It will be a Club Med," said Kate Moeller, Club Med corporate public relations.
With another round of rumors that the facility has been sold making the rounds through the Treasure Coast, Moeller said Monday the company hadn't been sold.
And while not discounting a future sale, she added that if any changes come to the site, it will be in the form of renovations.
"We're keeping our fingers crossed and hoping that's the case," she said.
Earlier this year, officials with Clearwater-based Cay Club were among a number of resort and real estate companies that had meet with members of the Coalition of Sandpiper Bay Associations, a group of 10 homeowners associations in the Sandpiper Bay area, to discuss the Club Med site.
Last May, the Club Med site was listed for sale by a real estate firm, but resort officials said they were only to redevelop its existing 337-room facility at the southern end of Pine Valley Street that includes a 60-slip marina, 18-hole golf course, tennis courts and conference center.
