Anderson, Coyotes demolish Denton, 49-25 Andy Newberry DENTON, Texas - Isaiah Anderson had one catch for 11 yards last week. That wasn't so much a matter of a lack of production, but a lack of opportunity. The Oklahoma State-bound wide receiver came into the District 5-4A opener third in receptions and third in receiving yards on the Coyotes. But Anderson found his chance for a breakout Friday night, going for touchdowns on his first two catches to spark a 49-28 WFHS rout of Denton at Collins Athletic Complex. Anderson added a third touchdown in the second half and finished with five catches and 102 yards. Anderson kick-started the offense, but the Coyotes spread around the fun in their first win over a Class 4A team this year. Quarterback Ben Henderson passed for 217 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 83 yards and another score. Ryan Robison, in his second career start at running back, more than doubled his excellent first outing. He rushed for 146 yards, including touchdowns of 4 and 13 yards. The Coyotes (3-1, 1-0) did have three turnovers and allowed a safety and an onside kick to let Denton (1-4, 0-1) get within 42-25. But Robison recovered the next kick, the Broncos' third onside of the night, to end the threat. Anderson caught two long touchdown passes to highlight a 28-point first half by the Coyotes. Henderson lofted him a perfect pass on a 36-yard streak route that he caught at the goal line for 14-0 lead less than five minutes into the game. Henderson had run for 33 yards on the first scoring drive, which ended with a 4-yard run by Robison. Denton cut the lead to 14-10 early in the second quarter as the Broncos broke the ice on a 37-yard field goal by Daniel Premenko and then WFHS fumbled a pooch kickoff at the 33-yard line. George Tovar of the Broncos scored on an 8-yard run to cash in that chance. The big boost came on the Broncos’ third possession when Adrian Irvin replaced Spencer Stewart at quarterback. Irvin finished with 98 yards rushing - he lost 4 on his final carry - and he passed for 73 yards. He scored on 9 and 39-yard runs in the fourth quarter. But the Coyotes regained control as Henderson ran for 23 yards, hit Eric Young for a completion on fourth down-and-one and then hit Anderson on a flag route for a 24-yard TD. At the end of the half, Henderson hit Antwone Moore with a 3-yard score on an easy slant route for a 28-10 lead. WFHS had 260 yards of offense in the first half with very good balance. Henderson (76) and Robison (66) combined for 142 rushing, while Henderson was 12-of-16 for 118 yards and one interception through the air. Safety JaQua Charleston had a sack and several key hits for the WFHS defense. Matt Contreras had an interception, and Andrew Johnson added a sack and some heavy pressure. Adam Wilde had two sacks, including one for a third-quarter safety to help Denton. The 441 yards were 21 short of the season high the Coyotes had in the opener against Sweetwater. The 224 yards rushing were easily a season best, and it was just 39 short of the team’s total through three games. Robison has 227 yards and three touchdowns in two games. The offensive line of Preston Spray, Danrick McGee, Xavier Giddings, Anthony Rodriguez, Eric Arme and Matt Loyd did a lot of the work up front.
