VERNON - Craig Whiteside rushed for 119 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Vernon Lions to a 46-0 win over Hirschi Friday night at Lion Stadium.

Vernon, which improved to 7-1 on the season and 2-0 in District 6-3A, rolled up 403 yards of offense and will battle Graham - a 14-13 winner at Iowa Park - next week for the outright district lead.

Senior Demetrias Murray added 99 yards on eight carries, while senior Ray Daniels needed just 10 totes to pile up 91 yards and two touchdowns.

Daniels tallied a pair of rushing scores as the Lions jumped out to a 22-0 halftime lead before Whiteside bursted free on a 46-yard touchdown run to ignite a 21-point Vernon third quarter.

It was Whiteside's second TD of the night after he caped a five-play, 31-yard drive with a 1-yard plunge at the close of the first quarter.

The Huskies squandered a pair of opportunities in the red zone at the end of the first half.

They were unable to convert after Demetrius Cooper fell on Ryan Smith's fumble on the Vernon 14 as Hirschi quarterback Caymon Edmonds couldn’t connect on four straight pass attempts.

Hirschi put together a 14-play, 63-yard drive, but stalled on the Lions' 10-yard line when Vernon's Murray stopped C.J. Turner at the line of scrimmage on a fourth-and-four swing pass.

Vernon Darien Williams and Kyle Echols added 5-yard scoring runs in the third quarter, and Grant Schur added 24-yard field goal to close the scoring for the Lions.

Turner paced the Huskies' ground game with 55 yards on six carries with a long of 29, while Desmond Ridley added 39 yards on 10 rushes.

Edmonds completed 7-of-24 passes for 67 yards and was sacked three times.

LaRay Mitchell caught three passes for 27 yards.

Hirschi's Josh Bradley had nine tackles and recovered a fumble, while Demetrion Cooper had eight tackles and a sack.

Tanner Kieschnick led the Lions with seven tackles, while Winston Jones and Daniels had interceptions.

Hirschi fell to 3-6 on the season and 0-3 in district.

The Huskies play host to Burkburnett next Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
