Estacado on a roll after 0-3 start
November 27, 2007 1:13 AM

Andy Newberry/Times Record News
The Rider Raiders don't have to go back far in the memory bank to recall that games aren't won on paper.
The Raiders (11-1) faced a 4-6 Springtown club in the bi-district round of the playoffs and the 9-1 and state-ranked Raiders went to halftime tied 7-7.
This week's Region I-4A semifinal opponent, Lubbock Estacado, has a similiar story. The Matadors opened the season 0-3. They gave up 61 points to a Class 3A team (Snyder) and came into the playoffs as the third-place team from District 4-4A.

But Estacado (6-6) has won five of its last seven games, scoring at least 21 points in every one.
"They've come on late and are playing with a lot of enthusiasm," Rider coach Scott Ponder said. "Coach (Danny) Servance has done a good job and they're playing with a lot of passion.
"They're winning and that's the most important thing. They find a way to win."
While the Raiders had a slow start against Springtown, they turned that around with a brilliant first half against Stephenville in a 32-29 victory last week.
Lubbock Estacado drilled previously unbeaten El Paso Austin, 47-21. In the bi-district round, the Matadors beat Dumas 32-14.
The Matadors' top player is senior wide receiver Jeremy Watson (5-10, 170). Ponder said he's a "D-1 player" and "very legit."
Watson has caught 51 passes and 21 of those have gone for touchdowns. He has 1,339 receiving yards.
Kickoff for Estacado and Rider is at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene.
Tickets: Rider football pre-sale tickets will be sold at Rider High School only. They will be $5 for adults and $3 for students. They will go on sale today through Thursday. General admission at the gate will be $6.
