« Raiders pull away in second half for 42-14 win | Main | Anderson, Coyotes earn 31-27 bi-district win »
Henrietta holds off Godley in bi-district contest, 15-9 Greg Bogomol FORT WORTH - Henrietta quarterback Seth Crumpton carried 34 times for 245 yards and one score, but it was the defense that came up with the big plays when it had to Friday night. That fumble helped the Bearcats run out the remainder of the clock as they hung on for a hard- fought 15-9 Class 2A Division I Region I bi-district playoff game at Boswell High School. Henrietta (7-4) advances to the area round where it will take on the winner between Grandview and Caddo Mills next week. If the contest is against Caddo Mills, it is tentatively scheduled for next week in Denton. Godley finished its season at 5-6. The two teams entered the half tied at 6-6. Godley took a 9-6 lead on its opening drive of the second half, getting a 38-yard field goal from Caleb Burkholder with 8:03 left in the third. The teams then traded turnovers on their next possessions, before Henrietta marched 94 yards on 11 plays, capped by Crumpton's 2-yard dart. The extra point attempt sailed wide into a stiff wind. Godley then had a chance to march down and win the game as it moved from its own 20-yard line out to the 43, where it had a first-and-10. But the forced fumble turned the ball back over to Henrietta and it was able to run out the clock. Overall, Henrietta amassed 377 yards compared to just 163 yards for Godley. The Bearcats rushed for 317 yards on 52 carries, while Godley rushed for just 123 yards and just 40 through the air. The only Wildcat touchdown came on a turnover by Henrietta. Henrietta took the game’s opening drive from its own 27 down to the Godley 35, eating up six minutes of the first quarter before an interception at the 20 stalled the drive. The teams then traded punts as the scoreless first quarter ended. Henrietta forced a punt but a fumble was recovered by Godley, and one play later Landry Martinez raced in from 35 yards out for a 6-0 lead. The extra point failed. Henrietta answered with an eight-play drive that covered 49 yards, getting a 41-yard field goal from Wiest. Another stop by the Bearcat defense set them up at their own 27 with 44 seconds left. Crumpton carried on back-to-back plays for 28 yards following an incomplete pass. Crumpton then completed a 26-yard pass to Chase Darnell. Two incomplete passes were sandwiched by a Crumpton 7-yard run set up a Wiest 33-yard field goal as time expired to tie the game at 6-6 at the half.

No play was bigger than Hayden Hollar's forced fumble of Godley quarterback Riley Good with 3:06 left to play at the Wildcat 42-yard line.
Trey Poynor then came up with a big sack on Godley's next possession forcing a Wildcat punt and the Bearcats responded by going 10 plays, covering 43 yards, getting a Blake Wiest 32-yard field goal, his third of the game for a 15-9 lead.
