Lemons leads Eagles to 24-0 win HOLLIDAY - Entering their game Friday night the Holliday Eagles knew exactly what they had to do to secure a playoff spot. A win over Jacksboro and they could make postseason plans. After a sluggish first-quarter start they found themselves looking for a spark and they found it in the form of senior tight end Landrey Lemons. His two first-half touchdown receptions gave the Eagles the lead and they never looked back as they topped the Jacksboro Tigers 24-0 here Friday night. The win gives Holliday the District 9-2A championship and propels them into the playoffs against an opponent yet to be to determined. The Eagles took a 7-0 just before the first quarter ended. A Jacksboro punt forced the Eagles to start at their own 9-yard line but Holliday needed just plays to reach the Jacksboro 1. Most of the damage was done by tailback Brayden Little as he had runs of 36 and 46 yards. A bad snap on third-and-goal pushed the Eagles back to the 20 yard line but quarterback Trey Lawson found Lemons open across the middle and the senior tight end raced into the end zone. Jacksboro was able to move the ball in the first half as they had three drives deep into Holliday territory. But each ended either on downs or turnovers. Quarterback Kole Weston rushed for 50 yards and threw for 40 yards in the first two quarters. Holliday increased its lead on the first possession of the second half. The Eagles relied mostly on the ground game as Tyler Jolly accounted for 52 yard rushing during the scoring drive. Little went the final 8 yards around right end and the Eagles were up 21-0. The Eagles picked off another Jacksboro pass early in the fourth and the turnover led to the final points of the evening. Starting at the Tiger 45 the Eagle’s bruising rushing attack took over and marched the ball to the 5-yard line, where the Jacksboro defense stiffened. Holliday called on Lemons and his field goal from 22 yards out was good. The Holliday defense was the story of the second half as they limited the Tigers to just 44 yards of offense in the final two quarters. Little was the leading rusher for Holliday with 99 yards on eight carries. Jolly added 60 yards on 10 totes. Lemons lead all Eagle receivers with six catches for 99 yards. Jacksboro’s Weston was 10 of 25 for 94 yards through the air for the Tigers who see their season end with a record of 4-6.

Holliday’s defense stopped Jacksboro’s next possession ending a promising Tiger drive with an interception at its own 25. The Eagles, mostly through the air, marched the 75 yards with the final 16 belonging to Lawson and Lemons as they connected again for six points. Lemons’ extra point put the Eagles up 14-0.
