Thank God for Texas and U-Turns
July 2, 2007I never really think about a U-Turn. You sit at the light, wait for your arrow and make turn your car the other direction.
But in Kansas City, where I spent a few days of vacation last month, the U-Turn is one of the worst sins apparently.
Miss a turn or can't get in the correct lane. The politicians up there want you to spend 15 minutes correcting your mistake.
So instead of making U-Turns, the KC drivers cut through convenience store parking lots at 30 mph. Or whip through a blind alley.
All actions that appear much more dangerous than that sinful U-turn.
Thank God for U-Turns. Sometimes even the best of us miss a turn.

The last traffic ticket I received was for making a U-turn in North St. Louis. No amount of cajoling or begging her to let me off because I was from another state could convince her to not issue the thing.
