WFHS 49-14 at half

September 26, 2008

And most of these statistics look like a complete game. Henderson already has a season high in rushing and A. Moore has his high in receiving yards.

Make it 56-14!

JoJo Cherry on the bomb, 47 yards and a score.

Henderson shows speed

What was supposed to be a pass turned into Henderson's third TD in as many carries. 65 yards down the sideline with one very good block from a wide receiver.

Denton had one highlight as Denzel King took a pass in the flat, broke through about 5 tackles and outran everyone for a 91-yard score.

42-7

Early and often

The Coyotes have scored four touchdowns in a quarter and a play.

Ben Henderson has run and passed for a score and Antwone Moore scored on a 54-yard catch-and-run, mostly a run with his sprinter's speed and also had a long punt return where he hurdled a Denton defender.

Kristian Shierry added a 39-yard interception return for a score and Eddie Aboussie has also scored.

It's a rout. Henderson scores again from 25 yards out. Two carries, two TDs in the second period for the senior.

The Coyotes probably needed confidence, but maybe a little more resistance, too.

Denton vs. Old High

I'm at the lovely Collins complex in Denton waiting on Denton and Old High to open the District 5-4A season. Not a lot is expected out of this game, but that's not how it used to be.

I can remember as a teen watching some good Denton teams run all kinds of misdirection at the good Coyote teams of the mid 1980s.

Cowboys good even when sputtering

September 21, 2008

The Dallas passing game hasn't been in a rhythm at any point tonight. But the other parts -- run game, defense and special teams have been good enough to pull away from a decent team on the road.

That's the sign of a very good team that is good enough to compete for a Super Bowl

Rider 10, SS 0

September 11, 2008

Rider has had two pretty good drives, minus any real big plays, to go up 10-0.

Solid kick by Joey Neale, a 43-yarder that just had enough.

Sulphur Springs will just now get its 2nd chance. It had the ball for all of 62 seconds in first quarter.

Nice place, Sulphur Springs

Friendly people, a good band, a nice crowd and the sun even came out for a while.

This does look like small-school Texas football.

Press box view reminds us from the Wichita Falls area of Burkburnett.

The field is grass and looks like its in good shape.

Prime time for Raiders

September 10, 2008

In addition to getting ready for a game, the Rider players all wanted to be sure someone in the family had a VCR going. Well, in this day and age, maybe that's a DVR, TIvo unit or DVD recorder they have to set up.

In my house, it's a DVR and I don't know what I'd do without it.

What a neat opportunity for Wichita Falls. I just hope the players on both teams can put aside their very natural nerves and play a clean game.

Rider loses with 9 ticks left

September 5, 2008

The last turnover got the Raiders and Cedar Hill escaped a wild second half with a 34-27 win.

What a wild start to the season.

Tied again, 27-27

Jackson delivers a 15-yard touchdown strike to Laquan Harper on fourth down and 5 from the Rider 15.

RIder has 4:21 to do something about it.

Rider moving the ball to CH 37, then a fumbled exchange between Beaver and J. Thompson.

Cedar Hill ball on own 42.

Rider takes the lead

Make it 27 consecutive points as Beaver finds Ward for a 44-yard touchdown. Ward found himself wide open on a flag route.

4:28 to go, Rider still clinging to 7-point lead.

Amazing! 20-20

Beaver does his patented scramble drill and hooks up with Eric Ward for 35 yards. Beaver scores from the 1 to tie the score at 20-20.

James Chambers made a huge solo tackle on a stunt on a fourth-and-1 gamble by Cedar Hill.

Rider starts strong in 2nd

A 55-yard kickoff return by Eric Ward to start the second half and moments later Shavodrick Beaver puts the Raiders on the scoreboard with a 37-yard TD run. Probably not best to showboat on the score, down 20-7, but it still counts.

Rider went for an onside kick and had a great chance, but the ball bounced over Eric Ward's head and out of bounds.

The next time we saw Ward he scored on an 80-yard TD run right up the middle of the field.

C Hill 20, RIder 13... about 7 minutes to go in 3rd

Down 17-0

Rider turns it over as Shavodrick Beaver can't get the handle on a snap and fails to fall on it.

After two pre-snap penalties, Cedar Hill QB Driphus Jackson fires a 22-yard TD pass for a 17-0 lead.

Beaver throws INT on second play of next drive. A forced throw on 2nd and 1.

But Rider escapes this time as Deerinwater makes a third-down stop and Cedar Hill misses a FG attempt from 38.

Another FG for Cedar Hill and a late missed chance by Rider when it had a good two-minute drill going.

20-0 Cedar Hill at halftime. With Rider's mistakes, it could easily be 35-0 or worse.

Rider down early

Cedar Hill converts an early third-and-9, and drives 73 for a touchdown on its first possession.
Rider goes three-and-out and gets off a poor punt.
An interference penalty helps the Longhorns move into position for a 26-yard field goal and 10-0 lead. Still more than 5 minutes to play in first quarter.
