56-14 FINAL
October 22, 2009The better team won -- no doubt -- but as bad as 56-14 was the Coyotes could have made the score much closer by converting a few key offensive plays and recovering the onside kicks. A good chance the Coyotes will see more short kicks and even onside kicks over the next two weeks.
I still believe Old High-Rider will be a good game to watch. Yeah, it's not 9-0 vs. 9-0, but it should be very well contested and it still could be for a playoff spot.
2ND HALF
Scotty Young tosses yet another TD, this one a 2-yard flip to a wide open Will Clark Ryan 42-7.
It was set up by a 59-yard kickoff return.
The Raiders didn't onside kick, but kicked it really high and short.
Coyotes had a couple of decent possessions and used the running game effectively in no-huddle attack.
Coyotes scored on an Eddie Aboussie 10-yard run in the 4th and Ryan has added two scores with its backups.
Ryan 56-14.

Ryan 35-7 at halftime
Devontay Chaffin for the second week in a row starts the game with a kickoff return for a touchdown. He went 98 yards untouched. He also had return scores against Everman, Denison and The Colony.
WFHS 7-0.
Scotty Young answered with 19 yard TD pass to Antonio Anderson. A long screen pass set it up.
Young and Anderson hooked up again for an 18-yard TD on the final play of the first quarter. 14-7 RYAN
Young with a fourth down TD pass to Michael Cudd for a 21-7 lead then Ryan found a great answer for Chaffin as it recovered an onside kick.
Young converts two third and long plays and a fourth down to drive the Raiders to another score on a 9-yard strike to Anderson, who scores his third TD of the night.
Ryan 28-7 with 1:56 left in the first half.
Another onside, another Ryan recovery. This looks like a make-it-take-it basketball game as the Raiders go up 35-7 on a TD reception by Bud Sasser.
Coyotes reach the 16-yard line of Ryan in the final seconds, but miss an open receiver for a TD and turn it over on downs.

Friday night Lights (or losses)
October 8, 2009
Friday Night Lights was a natural name for a show. It's life in Texas and other football-loving states.
But if it wasn't for Thursday night football, the Wichita Falls ISD teams would be 0-fer-the season.
Hirschi is 1-0 on Thursday and WFHS is 1-1 on Thursdays (2-0 with any officiating breaks in the opener).
But on Fridays the Huskies are 0-4, Rider is 0-5 and Old High is 0-3.
All three have a chance to win tonight against Vernon, The Colony and Little Elm.
The imperfect Friday night record will be gone by the time the local news comes on.

District 5-3A very balanced
October 6, 2009It appears that Zach and I aren't the only ones who think District 5-3A is going to be really, really close every week.
Texasfootballratings.com has all three 5-3A openers as close games this week. Iowa Park is a 7-point favorite at Decatur in the "blowout" of the league.
Hirschi is a 5-point favorite at Vernon and Bridgeport is a 2-point pick at Burkburnett.
All three favored teams are on the road. But I wouldn't be surprised at all to the see the home teams pick up a win.

5-4A divide
After watching Lake Dallas on Friday night, I would rank the Falcons a little behind both Ryan and Guyer.
After hearing about the Wildcats' sloppy play vs. Rider, I'm not quite as sure that I'd pick Guyer over Ryan. The Wildcats will be tested like never before in their secondary and they can't afford those slips they sometimes have when they pull out the double reverse or flea flicker out of their trick bag.
As for QBs, there's not much to dislike among the top three, but I might take James Franklin right now. He has great touch, as does Scotty Young, but I like Franklin's ability to beat teams with his legs, too.
Walsh can certainly do enough to take a team to a state championship, too. For his offense, he's perfect.
As for the rest of the district, T.J. Anderson of the Coyotes is looking better by the week.
State poll ballot: Here is how I voted this week.
4A
1st Place: Lake Travis
2nd Place: Longview
3rd Place: Denton Guyer
4th Place: Waxahachie
5th Place: Denton Ryan
6th Place: Schertz Steele
7th Place: Angleton
8th Place: Dallas Highland Park
9th Place: Big Spring
10th Place: Corpus Christi Calallen
