Baseball is what's wrong with kids today!

August 3, 2006

I've finally figured it out.
Due to the lack of baseball, children — mainly boys — today suffer.
There are many aspects of baseball to think about before you write this blog off.
Consider this.
Kids need to experience the game. Both by playing it, watching it and just as important, admiring it.
I grew up with heroes and wanted to be just like them while playing the game.
I remember, not very vividly though, the first time I saw my first Texas Rangers game.
I didn't get to see anyone who today is considered a great. Nonetheless, I still remember.

After growing up with the Chicago Cubs, (My dad was from Illinois), I learned to strive to be something.
I wanted to be just like Ryne Sandberg. I tried playing second base, but unfortunately I was stuck behind the plate.
I don't remember many baseball seasons when I didn't have a glove on my left hand. It's what I was and what I always did.
But today's kids are wimps.
I know of a couple of young boys around Wichita Falls, whose parents are either too protective or just don't care, that are big wimps.
They can't take a hit, they can't cope and they sure as heck can't throw a ball - of any shape or color.
Kids today need to be forced to do really anything. Don't misconstrue my message though. Not all boys are wimps. They other half are punks. It’s just a general lack of manners.
Maybe a shot of steroids would straighten them out.
