Carmike Vs. Cinemark
August 10, 2006The two movie theaters are a rumblin' and Carmike is throwing some heavy blows.
The only movie theaters in Wichita Falls worth visiting have been competing like crazy to draw a crowd, but Cinemark is just jabbing it out.
It seems like the last 10 good movies have gone to the mall.
But I'm tired of the mall.
The loudness, the hormones of teenagers -- hopefully I'm not getting too old.
But the new movie screen is 10 times better the slowly deteriorating Sikes 10.
The stadium seating...the reclining chairs...the ambiance. (Can a movie theater have ambiance?)
I've seen Superman at Sikes, Miami Vice at Sikes. I would have preferred to see them at Cinemark. Who wouldn't have?
I get frustrated every Friday when the movie listings come out and the mall gets the big release.
The dang theater was just built less than a year ago, and they're loosing business because they can't compete -- or won't pay -- for the better films.
Talladega Nights is at Sikes...and to what do my wondering eyes should appear, but World Trade Center at the mall.
What's a guy gotta’ do to see a good movie at the new theater.
Although you can't get refills on a large soda (over $3, which was a surprise the last time I went), I though that was a courtesy for the large.
I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.....see the new "hot" movie at the mall and not enjoy the experience (because that's what it should be), or see a second-rate film at the new theater?
Is there relief in sight?

We talk about this often at work and we all agree. Cinemark needs to step up. the Sikes has recently upgraded their projectors in an effort to keep up. Cinemark could easily shut Sikes down..... Wonder what under the table deal was made to keep Sikes afloat....
haha first comment whewt
