John Madden = the devil?

August 2, 2006

The upcoming release of Madden 07 has the gaming world in a frenzy.
Year to year the football video game is the cream of the crop for sports enthusiasts.
It always has a new feature, different functions and pretty good tunes (but the songs get old quick).
When I had, keyword had, a Playstation, Madden was the only video game I wasted my money on.
Boy do I wish I still had one.
Two things get to me regarding Madden. One is the cover jinx. Whoever they put on the cover of the game usually has an injury-riddled season or just stinks.
It started with Barry Sanders/Dorsey Levens first cover. Right before the season started Sanders retired and Levens entered no-mans land.
Then the jinx transferred to Eddie George (never the same), Dante Culpepper (injury slump), Marshall Faulk (injury), Michael Vick (injury), Ray Lewis (down year) and last year's cover boy, Donovan McNabb (also injured).
The other occurred to me just recently.

II was watching Dish TV when a special preview, pay-per view event popped up on the screen.
For only the small fee of $20 you can get a sneak peek of Madden before it comes out.
And on top of that bargain some of the "best players in the world" will teach you the ins and outs of the special features and game play.
$20!!!! $20???
I hope there isn't a soul out there that wouldn't pay for this silly little late night, pay-per view piece of junk.
I'm sure it’s not up to the actual HOF coach John Madden, but somebody did it.
The game is supposed to come out, I'm guessing, by the beginning of September.
Last year's MVP Shaun Alexander is on the cover this year, and I'm predicting a torn MCL-ACL-PCL in Week 3.
Just going out on a limb, but the fantasy football rock is not coming anywhere near the 1,800 yards and 28-odd touchdowns this year.
So thank you very much John Madden. I suggest you put yourself back on the cover.
