Our new dog.... Dr. Pepper
November 25, 2008Well... for the first time in my life... I have brought a dog home from the Humane Society. My family has always been a dog life saver but this was the first time in my 29 years that I've had the heavy hand of picking the dog along with my girlfriend Amy.
We settled on a Golden Retriever from the W.Falls Humane Society and named him....
Dr. Pepper
He's between 2-3, already a spoiled brat, and one of the best things that has ever happened. Amy's boys are totally in love with him, but Dr. Pepper knows who the boss of the house is and literally has to be in the same room as me at all times if not forcing me to pet him.
Not that it's a hard thing to do, he's sooooooooo cute and playful. Already housebroken (thank God) and only slightly spiteful when we leave. He chewed up our tv remote in about 20 minutes while we were eating dinner.... and made short work of several other items around the house.
I hate keeping him in his crate, but I know that it's for the best until he can be away from us and not destory things. I mean, he chewed his first leash in half. I'm not even sure I can understand how he was able to do that.
Anywho, here are some more photos of him playing in our backyard and on the patio. He's in puppydog heaven right now with all of this room.

Also, I'd like to encourage everybody who has thought about getting a puppy or dog for Christmas to go out to the Humane Society and pay the $105 for a dog rather than pick up some "free" puppy from a box on Kemp St. or whatever. You will never know how fullfilling it is to know that you've saved an animals' life.

Congratulations on your new pet. I can't tell how glad I am that you got a pet from the Humane Society instead of from the flea market or dog mill. I wish more folks would do this. Make sure you get Dr. Pepper fixed. Keep us posted on her health and development. I am also glad you are tolerant of his less than perfect personality. Way to go...hats off to you!
Who's surprised you named your first pet Dr. Pepper? Anybody?
