My first Mardi Gras, Pt. 2
March 1, 2009My first Mardi Gras was actually a huge pain in my tookis (is that how you spell it? I'm not sure. Usually I use the three-letter version for rear end, but this is a family-friendly blog.)
Anyway, because I'm in law school, I planned to study at all my favorite coffeeshops during the Mardi Gras hoopla. That was immediately impossible since most of them are located on streets where no less than 4,000 parades marched by every day.
I had agreed one day to look after a friend's dog while he was out of town, thinking this would be as simple as it usually is. Well, turns out a parade ran essentially in a square around his house, which meant I had to park about a mile away from his house and then walk to go walk the dog. Oh, and this is a very unfriendly dog that barks at everything that passes by. Needless to say, dog didn't like all the beads and the bands and the carrying on.
Oh, and most every store in town was closed on Fat Tuesday, even Wal-Mart. I didn't know Wal-Mart EVER closed, much less for a local holiday.
Next year, I think I've definitely got to adopt a "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" mentality.
