Cold child in the city
May 17, 2009So I woke up this morning, threw on some jeans and a short-sleeved T-shirt and headed outside to explore my new corner of the world in New York City.
I explored exactly five steps outside my front door when I had to turn around, go back up to my summer sublet and find a jacket. That's because it's cold up here -- Texas winter cold. I'd say it's about 40-50 out there right now, plus a chilly breeze. People are wearing coats and boots. I didn't expect summer to arrived up here yet, but I at least figured they woulda hit spring by now.
Needless to say, I'm the only one with a tan on the streets, too. Down in New Orleans, there was exactly one day where I put on a coat. The rest of the time, I was outside running/walking through the park, which turned me a lovely shade of bronze. These folks up here are pasty and pale, like they haven't seen the sun in months.
Summer, please get here soon.
